Aladrens, to me! by Professor Fawcett

By the end of the Feast, John was feeling his age, as he unfortunately often did in the evenings these days, but warded sleep off with another goblet of sweet juice as the meal began to wind down and the time neared for collecting the new Aladrens. He had done it many times now, but even after years at the school, most of them now as Head of Aladren, John still found a measure of satisfaction in the task. Aladren was noted for having stubborn members who valued their independence, but they managed, he thought, a fair degree of collective House pride for all that, and he had been one of them himself as a student.

Selina collected the Crotali – now hers; that was going to be an adjustment, as they had been Amelia’s…goodness, he wasn’t even sure they had become so after the Aladrens became his, but for quite some time, anyway – and then he rose to his feet as well and amplified his voice to get the attention of the new students. “Aladren first years, to me,” he called. “Gather together here, please…”

Once he had the number he had counted during the Sorting together, he gave them the standard beginning introductory remarks. “Good evening. I am Professor Fawcett, your Head of House. Keep together and follow me, and I will show you to our common room.”

And, if they were attentive, the way between it and the Hall, though he wouldn’t be surprised if that took a day or so to sink in. Sonora was not, by the standards of magical schools, huge, but it was large enough, especially for a newcomer, though he suspected their route might not be as indirect as those of the other Houses for a very good reason: the entrance to their common room was, as the saying went, hidden in plain sight. He had sometimes wondered, in fact, if the only reason Aladren had not seen more infiltration from other Houses over the centuries was because other Houses would consider it too obvious to be the real entrance.

OOC: This post is continued in the Aladren Common Room, and the pair are to allow you to post in other areas of the site. You do not have to reply to this post, though you may if you want to, and you may also continue your Feast threads for as long as you want.
