Crotali, This Way, Please by Deputy Headmistress Amelia Pierce

Now in her ninth year at Sonora, Deputy Headmistress Amelia Pierce had been the Crotalus Head of House for as long as any student in the school had been in attendance. She would shortly be turning forty, an age she would have somewhat liked to avoid, but if time did not conveniently stop turning for her, she did prefer it to the alternative of not turning forty. Her hair was still black - the one or two grey strands she found on occasion were neatly plucked out before stepping out into public - and her skin might not be as fresh and young as it once was, but neither was it yet wrinkled or sagging. She had a grandson already, but that was only because she'd adopted teenagers when she'd been twenty-one. She allowed Ben to call her Gramelia, but only because he was cute and four years old. Anyone else who tried got hexed. She might be hitting middle age, however reluctantly, but she was by no means old yet.

She had taken note of each of the students who had turned red during the sorting; being the one to hand them the potion made it easier to keep a tally and take a mental snapshot of the students she would need to lead out later. Now, as the feast dwindled to its end, she collected those same formerly red skinned children. The effects had worn off during the course of the meal, but she remembered the faces of those who had joined Crotalus.

The students had split evenly among the four house almost perfectly, with only Pecari getting one more than the others. Looking over the Crotalus batch, she hoped they might get along this year. They didn't always, but she had been lucky the last few years. The only remaining rivalry left that she was aware of was one sided and hadn't yet caused real trouble despite the pair now being in Seventh Year.

"Crotali!" she called out again, drawing in the stragglers that her first few summons had missed. "First year Crotalus students, please gather around me." The last child joined them and she took a final headcount to make sure nobody had wandered off. "If any of you turned a color other than red, you're in the wrong place," she advised, but nobody left, so she figured she had the right group.

"I am Coach and Deputy Headmistress Amelia Pierce," she announced, reasonably sure she had her full set of new first years, "of the Boston Pierces. I am your Head of House, Sonora's Deputy Headmistress, and the Quidditch Coach. Please follow me and I'll show you the way to our common room."

OOC: This post continues on the Crotalus board. If you wish to reply to it, you may, but it is not necessary. You may continue your conversations in the feast below. This pair of posts is just to give you permission to post elsewhere in the school.
