Crotali, Follow Me by Coach Amelia Pierce

Now in her eighth year at Sonora, Deputy Headmistress Amelia Pierce had now graduated her initial set of first years. No remaining students in the school could personally remember a time when she wasn't the Crotalus Head of House, neither had any of them been of school age when the Amelia's name had come up as Dylan's did today, announcing the change in House leadership. If turning thirty-nine later in the month wasn't already making her feel old, that would have done the trick.

With her birthday threatening to bring her one year closer to middle age, she had begun to fear she was turning into a crotchety old lady who would never be able to escape the ruts borne of years of habit. So, for the first time since she had started giving it, she planned to mix up her Head of House speech a little this year. Pity the last of her New Hampshire cousins wouldn't be able to hear it. Somehow, all four of them had managed to neatly avoid her House.

She had taken note of each of the students who had turned red during the sorting; being the one to hand them the potion made it easier to keep a tally and take a mental snapshot of the students she would need to lead out later. Now, as the feast dwindled to its end, she collected those same formerly red skinned children. The effects had worn off during the course of the meal, but she remembered the faces of those who had joined Crotalus.

She honestly thought the Crotalus group would have been larger, given the list of names she'd seen beforehand, but they had split out among the four house almost evenly, with only Aladren looking particularly small. Looking them over, she thought they might actually get along this year. There was one Thornton, but the rest looked to be fine upstanding member of Society, who ought to all feel obligated to treat each other with formality and respect. Hopefully, Abigail would not find herself ostracized due to her mixed blood. Amelia made a note to keep an eye on the girl to see if she was making friends. Holly Greer had proven that purebloods and those with muggle blood could find common ground, so it wasn't entirely impossible.

"Crotali!" she called out again, drawing in the stragglers that her first few summons had missed. "First year Crotalus students, please gather around me." The last child joined them and she took a final headcount to make sure nobody had wandered off. "If any of you turned a color other than red, you're in the wrong place," she advised, but nobody left, so she figured she had the right group.

"I am Coach and Deputy Headmistress Amelia Pierce," she announced, reasonably sure she had her full set of new first years, "of the Boston Pierces. I am your Head of House, Sonora's Deputy Headmistress, and the Quidditch Coach. Please follow me and I'll show you the way to our common room."

OOC: This post continues on the Crotalus board. If you wish to reply to it, you may, but it is not necessary. You may continue your conversations in the feast below. This pair of posts is just to give you permission to post elsewhere in the school.
