What if...? (TAG LILAC) by Arista and Addison Thornton

The Thornton girls wanted nothing to do with leaving home after midterm this time. Both of them wanted to be at home with their newborn sisters, not going off and leaving them just after they were born! Addison looked out the back of the van as it drove off, Amira waving solemnly in the doorway to the house as their father drove them to the Wagon. Arista argued with her father in the middle seat, begging him to let them stay at home, at least for a little bit. Neither got their wish. No sooner than they begged, their father stopped the van and Arista looked up to see the wagon was waiting on them once more.

With a sigh, she turned back to Addison and spoke to her. “I guess we’re outta luck little sister…” she said, wringing her hands. Arista knew something wasn’t right, but she just couldn’t point her finger at it, and it bothered the twelve year old.

Addi looked up at her older sister and shivered, a lone tear fell from the corner of her right eye. “The Triplets… Amira and I are worried…” She said, unsure if her father heard her or not. And at this point the first year didn’t care if he had. Arista turned to Addison with a swing of her neck, stopping to look right into her slightly younger sister’s eyes.

“Addi?” she asked. “What do you mean?” Arista added, nursing her right wrist and thumb from the pain of the tendonitis.

“When you look at them, they look perfect, but only Arien turns when she hears a noise, and moves when she sees something moving. Audi and Ashling on the other hand… Well, Audi moves with sight, and Ashling only with noise.” Addison said to whichever one of the pair was listening to her. “What if something’s wrong?” she asked louder, so that she was sure that their father had heard her words.

“I’m sure everything is fine girls, please don’t worry.” Their father said as he opened the doors to the van and pulled out their trunks and whatnot, dragging them over to the wagon with the girls in tow behind him chattering quietly to each other. “We’ll see you at the end of term!” he said to them both and drove off without so much as a goodbye or a wave.

Arista turned angrily away from him, but Addi just looked forlorn and sighed a long sigh. “Why doesn’t Daddy love us Ris?” Addison asked as the pair climbed into the Wagon to head to school once more.

“I don’t think it’s that he doesn’t love us Ad…” Arista said to her sister, though not believing it at all herself. “He’s probably just trying to get back to Mom and the others…” she said, trying to make herself believe it too. Arista was old enough now to know that if you said something often, it eventually became either truth or reality, and she hoped that this was not the only thing in the world that would prove her wrong in her assumptions!

The Wagon lurched and bumped along the road, bringing the girls closer and closer to school. When they were just about there, the ride slowed to an almost stop and the Driver told them to get out and he’d get their trunks for them, which he nicely did just in time for another Wagon to follow suit. Everyone was starting to come now, and there would soon be no way to get back home unless they were apparated to the side of their new sisters. Both Arista and Addison got to spend a little time with the triplets before they had to leave, but they knew that the girls would grow so much before they got to see them again, and they didn’t want to miss out on all the firsts. First smile, first crawl, first steps, among others, was something that had never been missed in their house before, even though with Alexander, Arista at least was at school, but Addi and Amira had sent updates to her, so she didn’t feel too left out. However, this time both sisters would be left out and Amira was still there.

‘What I would do if I were Amira…’ Addison thought to herself as she shivered in the loss of missing out on everything. ‘Well, almost anything,’ Amira would think as the road became smaller and smaller behind them as they traveled to school once more. Addi sighed once more as Arista had to drag her once more up to Cascade Hall for the first meal back from Vacation. “Seriously Ris… What if somethings really wrong?” Addi asked, shaking in fear for her youngest sister’s health and safety.
“Well… I’m going to hope that nothings wrong like Daddy says, and if it’s not okay Mir will tell us.” Arista said, trying to stay strong for her younger sister. The Teppenpaw second year was worried too, but she wasn’t going to show it to Addison. There would be no chance of it. ’None!’ she thought to herself as she took in a deep breath and glanced around. “Let’s go sit, food’s coming!” Arista said, to try to change the subject of conversation which was worrying both Thorntons.

“I’m not hungry Ris… I’m scared… What if something happens? What if they’re sick? Or somethings just not right…?” she said with a short sob. Arista shot a look up to each of the tables in search of their Head of House. ‘Lilac would know what to do…’ she hoped as she spotted the young teacher not too far away.

One could go mad considering ifs by Professor Lilac Crosby

After a rather busy midterm, Lilac was ready to get back into the swing of things. There had been the Sinclair party on Christmas which she not been entirely looking forward to, but spending time with her niece and nephews made it so much better. Plus, running into Seth wasn’t exactly bad, either. Then there had been the New Years ball, which had been pretty fun. She was glad to have been invited.

Now that school was getting back to normal, adjusting to the post-holiday mood, the twenty-seven year old hiked towards the staff table. However, before she got there, something caught her eye: two girls of her House, standing and looking very sad. She had learned their names--Addison and Arista Thorton--after, er, sort of inducing an asthma attack in the younger on the first day. Merlin, she still felt pretty guilty about that.

Approaching the girls with concern in her eyes, the Teppenpaw Head of House spoke kindly. “Is something wrong, girls?” Assuming it was the younger girl who was more upset--as evident by the worried look in the other’s eyes--she spoke more directly at Arista. “Is everything all right?”

Lilac was not a mother, but she could be very maternal when needed. Now seemed to be one of those times. “If you girls need me, I’m right here. For anything. Always.” She gave them a smile to say whatever is wrong, it will get better. “Is there any way I can help?”

Yes... That's for sure! by Arista and Addison Thornton

Addison had been acting worse than ever before this term, and Arista was worried, it was a good thing that both Thornton girls trusted Lilac, their Head of House and Transfiguration teacher. Their midterm was basically taken up by the birth of the triplets, and taking care of them and their mother as well as their younger siblings, so they really didn’t have too much time to play and be kids, but the pair of them were used to that by now!

School was getting back to the normal routine, but that didn’t mean both sisters weren’t still thinking of their siblings back at home! The triplets and Amira were on their minds constantly! The Thornton girls stood there with each other, looking forlorn and worried, Addison, the younger of the two looked worse off than her older sister Arista, but then, that was normal, wasn’t it?

Normally however, the second year tried to help her sister feel better, this time they both looked worked up! Lilac thankfully, to Arista’s welcome, walked up to the pair of them, concern in her eyes. “Well…” Arista started, sighing and turning from Lilac to Addison and back again. “We’re worried…” Pausing to take a deep breath, she went on. “The triplets were born over midterm you see, and well… We think something may be wrong with two of them… We know you’re here, and that’s why we can talk to you. And I wish I knew if there was any way you could help!” Arista finished, feeling as if she had a weight on her shoulders that was digging her into a hole thousands of feet deep.

She turned and looked back at Addison again, who’s eyes were wet with tears, sobbing softly into her hands next to her older sister.

Don't worry, be happy. by Prof. C.

Kids like Addison and Arista Thorton were the reason Lilac wanted to teach. She loved all of her students very, very much, but she felt especially close to these girls because they evidently felt close to her. It didn’t seem many students liked her very much, but the Thorton girls were very open with her. It was clear they trusted and respected her, which was what any professor was after.

She listened to Arista explain the situation with their triplet siblings very closely, fairly certain she had heard of their parents expecting them previously. The girls certainly had plenty of sibling, that was for sure. The brunette professor did not make judgments on that number, however; it was not her place to judge. It was simply her job to take care of and education those students who came to her.

After Arista finished, the twenty-seven year old professor took a turn to speak the only advice you can give. “You girls need to try not to worry,” she said gently. “Making yourselves sick and miserable over a possible problem won’t help if there is. I think your family would prefer you were happy anyway, right? If you were ill, would you want others to worry themselves over it?”

Placing a comforting arm around each of the girls, Lilac offered a smile. “Would you like to come have milk and cookies in my office, get your mind off of it?” Because, yes, Lilac had a secret supply of milk and cookies in her office. The woman enjoyed her sweets.

I'm happy with cookies! by Arista and Addison Thornton

Arista and Addison not only respected their teacher and head of house, but they held her with the highest of esteem as well. They felt as if they could go to her for anything, and that was a good thing. Arista explained to the Russian woman what was going on at home, and stopped, looking to Lilac for her help. She told them they needed to try not to worry, and that making themselves sick over it wouldn’t help anything.

“Well… no…” Arista answered her question of would they want anyone to worry if they were sick. “But…” she started, sounding like her slightly younger sister there for a second, who looked at Arista, shock in her eyes.

Addison looked from Arista to Lilac and back to her sister once more as Lilac put her arms around them both and offered milk and cookies in her office.

Arista smiled and nodded, and Addison repeated. “Milk and cookies? Really?”

Addison felt as if this woman was just what they needed right then, and even without the milk and cookies! But they certainly didn’t make it worse!

“That would be nice…” Arista said. “Very nice. Thank you.” she added as an afterthought.

“I… I think we’ll like that…” Addison added to Lilac, hoping that both girls had come across thankful, because that, she knew was what they had both been going for!
