That was close by Hyana Kamiya

Hyana sat back down at her table, looking at the girl with the braid. She seemed pretty mad...Hyana mentally slapped herself. She wasn't going to think about her mess ups. But her name...what was that girl's name? C...K...Caedence! That's what it was! Hyana drank out of her goblet. And those two that helped her must be twins. She'd have to thank them later.

She looked at the person next to her. She opened her mouth to say hi, but the only thing that came out was air. Looking at her plate, she turned red. She couldn't even say something as simple as hello!

'You're so stupid Hyana. You'll never amount to anything.' She heard her mother's voice echo throughout her head. Hyana looked at all the people laughing, and wished that someone...anyone...would just say hi, or acknowledge her existence.\n\n

I guess I can be nice to you! by Josiah Ashwood

OOC: Thank goodness for Fuzzy time. You don't mind if this is a bit after the start of the feast do you?

IC: Josaih had finished chatting with the two other Teppenpaw girls. Both seemed perfectly okay, and he couldn't wait to see them at other times. He had cleared his plate and excused himself pretty early on to get away from the humiliation of spitting all over the other girl, Tally, he thought.

He strolled lazily through the hall, not too eager to leave, but not wishing to linger. He was probably better off finding a new seat and chatting instead of eating.

It was then he spied a girl sitting with the Alardrans looking pretty down in the dumps. He walked up behind her. This was supposed to be a happy feast, and he just wouldn't let her stay so blue. "Now, now, why so sad, huh?" He said just above her shoulder, "You're a witch, that ought to be happy news enough! My name is Josaih Jonathan Ashwood, of the noble Ashwood line," he said falling into his familiar speech, "Well, without the pompous nature," he added with a wink. "Tell me, what is on your mind?" He said cocking his head at an angle and looking at her curiously.\n\n

Hello... by Hyana Kamiya

Hyana looked up at the boy Josaih. She couldn't believe it, someone was actually speaking to her! Where she used to live, this kind of thing would never happen. She decided to take advantage of it.

"H-hi. My name's Hyana Kamiya. It's nice to meet you J-josaih." Hyana decided not to say anything about his weird speech. She didn't really want to talk about what had happened, but he seemed like a nice enough guy. Twirling her black hair around her index finger, she started explaining.

"Well, when we drank out of that cup and I turned blue, I kinda was surprised and spilled it all over me. So I went to go find a bathroom to dry off and I bumped into that girl over there." She pointed at Caedence. "She snapped watch it at me. I said it was an accident, but I don't think she believed me. If those two," She pointed at the twins, "hadn't shown up, she probably would've killed me. I guess that she doesn't like me very much." She let her hand drop, all of a sudden feeling better.

She looked up at him and, with a small smile, asked, "I'm muggle born, what about you?"\n\n

Josaih grinned at her. This girl was pretty cool! But shy, it seemed. He looked where she pointed and shuddered. That Caedence girl was scary. "What the heck are you staring at?" she snapped at him. "You're pretty face, m'dear!" he said with a grin. "Oh go jump into a dragon's nest, freak!" she said with a growl. "Now now, be nice!" Josaih scolded a bit, but Caedence just turned away with an irritated sigh.

"Wow, that girl sure is as nasty as a starved Hungarian Horntail!" he remarked, "I'm a pureblood as far back as I can tell. Now, dont take it badly," he said to cut off any misgivings, "I am not like my mother at all. I dont get how anyone could hate someone as sweet, and cute, as you!" He winked, "Where is your family from? what do they do for a living? My dad works with the American Ministry of Magic. It's exciting! Mom just lazes about at home and has Chipper, our prarie elf, do all the work. I say she should let the poor boy have a break, but mom says the suggestion might just depress him," he shrugged.\n\n

That's okay by Hyana

Hyana flinched slightly at Caedence's response. That girl was frightening. Shaking her head, she realized that Josaih was talking to her again.

"A Hungarian Horntail? That's pretty funny." She laughed. She had read about Hungarian Horntails and other dragons, and that one could be especially fierce.

"Well, I don't mind if your a pureblood. I don't think that they're all bad. I'm from America. My mom doesn't do anything...I did all the work. She..." Hyana's voice broke. "It doesn't matter. My family life is nothing special." She said quickly, to avoid speaking of her mother, or what happened to her father.

Touching her two index fingers together, she calmed down and said, "So, what are you planning to do here at Sonora?"\n\n

"You sound like Chipper. That's our house elf. He does all the work while mother just lazes about giving orders. She forbids me to help. Says that 'Chipper needs to do his chores. He is happy working and you aren't alowed to help'. I'm terrified of my mother getting mad at me, but worse if we fought that would look bad and I have to," He made a face as if talking about something that he found stupid, "Uphold the family honor,"he finished in a falsetto voice to mock his mother. He laughed.

"But myself, I plan on watching some quiddtich and maybe joining any clubs. I hear there are some wonderful teachers. Like Profesors Deck, Kij..kij..ewski, yeah Kijewski, and Connell. I haven't met any of them but Profesor Deck is my head of house, so I guess I'll meet him after the feast. Mother says that Drake O'Leary is scary to meet, but he's a real good teacher and disciplinary. Which means his class'll be boring." Josiah laughed here again, "what about you? I'm sure you have something planned?" \n\n

took ya long enough, joking by Hyana

Hyana laughed, being compared to a house elf. That made perfect sense. 'Hyana clean this, Hyana fold that, Hyana do this.' Her mother always said something of the sort. And except when her mother was drunk, which was every night, she always obeyed. And Josiah was pretty brave, able to talk about his mother like that. She never could. Josiah finished his rambling, which Hyana didn't mind in the least, and asked if she had anything planned. She took a second to think, then said:

"Actually, I want to do whatever's offered. Being muggleborn and all, I don't know much about quidditch except for what I've read. I'd probably fall off the broom or something!" She said with a laugh. She pushed a random strand of hair back behind her ears and said in somewhat of a whisper, "All I really want to do this year is make some friends. That's all." She looked up at Josiah and turned red. It was probably a stupid thing to say. He'd probably laugh, say some weird insult and walk away. That's what other boys did to her.\n\n

Re: took ya long enough, joking by Josaih

He frowned at the girl. She was so...pulled back. So unsure of herself. "Well, I can give you some lessons. I have a broom of my own...I can have Mortemer go home with a letter requesting mother to send me a broom..." he faded off growing slightly pale. His mother would send the broom with owls! "Umm...or I could have Mo just bring an order for a new one and bring it himself...Maybe have mom use his sister." He added.

He suddered mentally. That was one of the things that anoyed him the most about his mother. She thought his fear was silly! It wouldn't be if she had had the worst nightmare of her life, involving owls, and woken up to find the family owl staring at her with its huge, unblinking eyes. He shuddered outwardly this time, the memory leaving him shaken, but he didn't let much of it show.

Her last comment brought him out of his musings. "Well, silly, don't you think that being as pretty as you you'd have lots of friends? After all, you're beautiful! Your dark hair, almond eyes, why wouldn't all guys like you? Why wouldn't all girls want to be like you? You must be joking, I'll bet back home you have twenty best friends, a boyfriend, and many people fauning over you!" he insisted. Blushing slightly, he grinned. It was true, he did find her rather attractive, but he remembered his manners as well, "I apologize for being so striaght-forward. If that offended you, say so." His mother had often scolded him for being so flirty and straight-forward. It wasn't proper of a yound gentleman, she had said. \n\n

Christmas is coming! by Hyana

"You'd let me borrow one of your brooms?" Hyana whispered. It was unbelievable. Josiah was such a nice guy.

Then he started saying stuff like she was beautiful, that girl's wanted to be like her, people must be fauning over her, she must have a boyfried...she couldn't contain it. She doubled over in laughter. She let her hair fall in front of her face, and tears started streaming down her cheeks. Her entire face had turned red. Luckly he couldn't tell that most of it was a blush. She clutched her side, it was hilarious!!! She knew she was probably freaking the poor boy out and sat up. She wiped the tears away from her eyes.

"I'm...so sorry. It's just...that was so funny. I'm worth nothing at my home. Here is a different world apparently!" She said in between her laughter. She calmed down, regaining her quiet composure.

"If that offended you, say so." She heard Josiah say. She looked up quickly. "No, you didn't offend me at all. What would make you think that?"\n\n

No, it's pat! XP by Josiah

"Of course I would!" Josaih began fiercely, but was stopped by her laughter. He blinked a few times. What was so funny about her being beautiful? The dark hair, the almond eyes, why Josiah always thought Asian chicks were to die for!

"Mother... well she says flirting is improper lest the lady wishes it. She says that," He paused adapting a high girly voice to imitate his mother, "women are not statues to gawk open mouthed at. They don't apreciate being called beautiful if you do not know them well and even then it is improper." He scowled, "What does she know? After all," he grinned, "You are beautiful, should you not be made aware of it? But there is our family honor. Mother could punish me. She could give away Mo and Racheel. She could give Chipper clothing," He paused and added, in case she didn't understand, "I do like Chipper, he is ever so nice! But giving him clothes would make him so so sad! And he would have to leave us"

After shaking his head sadly, he continued, "And I would be made to take over his duties. But the worst she could do," Mentally he added, 'worse than having to be in a roomfull of owls!', "Would be to disown me for tarnishing our family honor. Our family goes back many many generations of witches and wizards and..well I won't be the one to mess it up! So I must always remember my manners. Even to people at school. Especially at school," he finished. \n\n

Fine smart butt by Hyana

Hyana nodded throughout his little ramble, drinking in all of the information. He was...interesting. She decided to tell him a story, since he had been sharing his life story with her.

"Well, I'm definatly the mess up in my family. I remember the first sign of me being a witch. I coming home from the Black Belt tournament for Tai-Kwon-Do, and I ran into my mother. I was still in my Dobak (my uniform)! She was mad. She thought I was at work. She had never known that I took martial arts lessons. Anyway, she grabbed my wrist and pulled me to the park. I was terrified. I don't really recall what she said but I responded saying, 'Leave me alone! I am stronger than the likes of you!' That was the first time I had ever talked back to my mother. She threw me against a tree and tried to strangle me. There was a flash of violet light, and my mother was stuck at the top of the tree. She asked me to help her down. I looked at her for a second, then I stuck out my tounge and ran. She didn't come home until the next night."

She realized that her story was somewhat long, and blushed. "So...what about you? Do you do martial arts? I guess not, it must be against your family honor." She felt self consious because of her slight Japanese accent. Boy, she sounded so much different than Josiah.

:P my specialty by Josaih

Josaih gaped open mouthed. This poor girl! She must have had the worst life if she had to do something in secret like learn how to fight. After all, who was against doing what you want to? 'Parents' he thought simply. Hyana was right, his mother did think violence was unbecoming of a young wizard. He couldn't even own a muggle Nintendo DS! Or watch shows that hinted violence. His mother might slap him with a switch, but kill him? Never!

He walked over to her, not caring what his mother would say, and hugged her tightly. "I'll protect you, Hyana." HE said when he let go. He gave her a big smile and a light punch on the arm, "Don't worry." Hey, the girl was hot, but she was a person. He would have to make sure to help her out whenever he could. \n\n

Hyana opened her mouth to ask if he was okay. He looked pretty stupid with his mouth hanging open. But before she could speak, he had hugged her. Her face turned redder than it had ever been in her life. I'll protect you. Don't worry. He said.

Hyana couldn't believe what she was hearing. She mattered to someone! Hyana kept trying to form a sentence, but all that came out was, "I...uh...buh...th...hehehehehe..." Why am I such a babbling idiot?! I can't believe this. Gathering up her courage, she took Josiah's hand and looked him in the eyes.

"I'll help you too. Thank you, Josiah-kun." She said quietly. It meant so much to her. She finally stood out...she was finally above the crowd to this one person. And if he was the only person, so be it. \n\n

Josaih looked around the hall. It seemed that the feast was wrapping up. Darn. He had hoped to spend more time with Hyana. But they did have the quidditch to look forward to. Besides, they could only make him go when his head called to him. "So, quidditch. It'll take me about a week, two tops, to get you a broom over here. Mother can send it over. It isn't the greatest broom. It's a model behind, to be honest. But mother thinks all the "really good" brooms are from England. All we have are firebolts." he said.

He almost fidgeted with the cuff of his sleve, which was a nervous habit of his. This girl seemed to like any form of attention. Well, good attention. She didn't really know Josaih that well, like maybe for a few hours, so why did she act so happy? Was her home life always like that story she told Josaih about? If so, she seemed to need all the big-brother he had in him. He gave her another bright smile.\n\n

Hyana listened to his talk of brooms and stuff. She had no clue what the heck he was saying. Firebolt? That sounded like a broom. "Ummm, aren't firebolts supposed to be good brooms?" She asked. She watched him fidget and realized the feast was most definatly wrapping up. He seemed to want to go. "Gomen...if you want to go you can. I mean, you have been talking to me the whole time..." She said, somewhat reluctantly. She didn't want him to go, but she didn't want to be a pain. And her head still hurt from all of this quidditch talk.\n\n

"well, firebolts are good enough of course. But there is a new broom out on the market. Sharpshooter? Hear of it? Supposed to be even better than the firebolts, great for seekers mostly. But i'd just like to see how fast it can go!" His face glowed in excitement from what he was talking about. Obviously he loved quidditch.

"NO!" he said loudly and sharply at the mention of leaving, "I-i mean no," he repeated softly. 'Idiot! If mother ever heard you say 'no' in such a disrespectable way...' he thought. "I-I like talking to you. You're nice!" he grined brightly though mentally slaped himself. The girl pours out her life story to you an all you can say is 'you're nice'? stupid!! "Uh..and you are very pretty," Stupider...more stupid, "Well, you are easy to talk to and I like talking to you. Say, why don't we meet the first week-end after lessons and we could talk somemore? Maybe I could teach you how to fly? The firebolt is rather fast, I think you'd like the Nimbus 2000 or 2001. Great handling, not too jerky. Cleansweep maybe if you're really nervous. We don't have one, but mother wouldn't mind if I owled," oh, not owl, he thought, raven! "Uh...sent for one. We do have the nimbuses, fast and smooth handling. The 2000 is slower, but the 2001 can get you to where you need to go faster and smother. Responds at a light touch. Nice broom. Your choice, slow or fast, or very slow," he slapped himself mentally. He really needed to work on his babbling problems!\n\n

"Uh...I'm a beginner so I guess slow. A firebolt sounds really fast. A Nimbus would be great. Thank you so much Josiah, you're such a great person!" She smiled. He really was. Even if he's somewhat...odd.\n\n

Josaih half-nodded at the owl mention. THen she continued on about what broom she would like, "Nimbus it is then. I'll just send Mo right over to pick it up. Shouldn't take too long to get here. Sound goo-?" his question trailed off when her owl comment hit him.

Hit him it did. It was like a sucker-punch right in the gut. "I-I am not afraid of owls! What would give you that idea?" He couldn't keep a nervous quaver out of his voice, despite wanting to sound firm. It was interesting to a passer-by to see his face. First, it went about the color of paste. Then it turned bright cherry red which clashed wounderfully with his orangey-red locks. "I-I just...like ravens better. More smart, more reliable. Yeah," He finished somewhat lamely. \n\n
