First-year girl dormitory by Sylvetta Vuong

The ride to Sonora was uneventful for Sylvetta, for she had had her nose taped to the Sherlock Holmes book during most of it. She did realise that most people sitting near her had known each others already and was engulfed in their own conversations, so she didn't really care to make a move. It was good that everything was peaceful. Things could hardly ever get boring for her: she took interest in noticing small details in the environment (an odd one, that was) but also in ignoring everything and letting her imagination do its job (an even more bizarre interest). She read the whole book during the ride, and only let her ears focus on taking in the sounds from around her, just to have an idea of what was going on so she could at least react properly to someone greeting her, should that ever happen.

But the ride was over, and the sorting ceremony was over, and even then things was still flowing with peace. Sylvetta liked the shade of blue her skin had after she had taken the sorting potion - great to know that this was the color of her house - but there was no bigger impression than that. The Headmaster seemed to be a serious person that didn't enjoy teaching or ruling a school too much, but then it might only be her. Her housemates were quieter than students from the three other houses (again, not that she didn't like it this way), the food was delicious enough, and she felt comfortable. However the hall was itself a beauty, Sylvetta remarked when she finally took a look around herself, and she decided that she would spend time drawing a picture of this place to send to her parents.

When she stood up from the table in Cascade Hall, Sylvetta decided that she was not sleepy yet nor did she want to finish her book tonight. Although her eye condition had been lessened remarkably by her special-made pair of glasses, reading in a moving wagon had strained her eyes a little bit too much. Silently, she followed the Head of Aladren House to the library - what a place to build a common room, she thought to herself.

Ms. Head of House - Yew? Yu? Sylvetta only catched a syllable somewhere in the Hall - explained to the Aladren student about their common room. Sylvetta observed as the professor pulled a book slightly outward from the shelf (Birds of Prey? Seems like an interesting read, Sylvetta mused, I hope there is a spare copy.) and reveal the way into the Aladren common room. Sylvetta could almost instantly see how the design fitted the house's character: dark blue walls that would not waste one's concentration on small dull details, bookshelfs stacked with all types of books (Sylvetta would be at least slightly disappointed if the books weren't updated daily), and reading/working space with perfect lighting and seats that smelled and looked very comfortable. The notcie board was big, but seeked just enough attention to do its job.

At least now I know what I'm going to do thorough the holiday season, Sylvetta smiled.

With everything explained clearly, Ms. Head of House told the students that they could now go unpack their belongings, or stay in the common room and make some new friends. Sylvetta decided that right now the common room was crowded enough without her presence, so even though she was eager to try out the seats and check out the books, she put her wants aside and went to the dormitory.

The dormitory seemed to also be built with a certain use in plan, for it was as bright as the reading corner and the beds are comfortable enough for an in-bed reading session, or homework session. Otherwise the dorm didn't seem to fit for any other (too flashy or that needed more space) activity, not counting sleeping. Sylvetta stood at the door for a second just to observe the place that would be her bedroom for one whole schoolyear, then she stepped inside to unpack her luggage.

This was not in any way an interesting work, however, so Sylvetta thought of distracting herself while sorting her socks. "How are we sleeping tonight?" She asked the others in the room with her at that moment, still looking at the pink-orange sock that didn't go with any other sock in her going-abroad suitcase."It would be better if I could stay away from the window. Direct sunlight hurts my eyes, and since I often wake up rather early, I might accidentally ruin your sleep. But if that is not a problem, then you can decide for me."
