The Aladren common was in the library, Diana explained as she took her first years through the hallways of Sonora towards Aladren’s corner of the school. The other common rooms were spread throughout and though they would sooner or later figure out in general where these were (only an incredibly dense person would not notice that Pecaris tended to spend a lot of time coming to and from the Gardens, Teppenpaws a lot of time wandering about the stairs and Crotali in the vicinity of a certain gruesome portrait) she still pointed out to them that they could never reveal the location nor mode of access to what would be their home for the next seven years. “This bookcase is the key our common room so to speak,” Diana said as she reached the shelf behind which the Aladren common room was located. “When you pull a certain book forward it admits you to the room. The name of the book for those of you who care to know if Birds of Prey.” She demonstrated by gently pulling on the worn cover from so many years of students accessing the room.

They walked into the room and Diana waited for a few moments before continuing with her speech in order to allow the first years some time to take in their surroundings. Aladren house was, in her opinion, rather homey. Covered in dark blue and bookshelves it made the perfect space for students who were more of the academic persuasion to relax and chat in or look over their school work. “Curfew is 10 p.m.,” she said once things had settled down. “So everyone is expected to be in Aladren house before then. Furthermore, while it is up to you to decide your bedtime general noisiness is not permitted past nine pm. Girls and boys dormitories are separated to the left and right for certain reasons and any student attempting to go up the wrong staircase for any reason will find themselves a very unpleasant return to the common room,” Diana cleared her throat and did a quick mental headcount only just realizing she had forgotten to do so before. After being reassured that all the students were there, she continued. “Each room number corresponds with your year. Because it is such a small school all first and second years take lessons together as do third, fourth and fifth years, and sixth and seventh years. So, if you have friends in other houses or even years you will be able to see them in class or one of the community areas such as Cascade Hall, the Gardens, the Library or the MARS rooms.”

“As I said before this will be your home for the next seven years so I advise you to do your best to get along with your housemates. You do not have to like them but being civil with one another will make things easier. If you do find yourself having any problems- social, academic or otherwise there are various people you can come to for help. As your Head of House I will be more than willing to give anyone a helping hand if I am able. My office is just down that hallway. However, I will not always be available. If I am unavailable or if you prefer talking to another student you may go to your house prefects (who accompanied us to the common room), Francesca Wolseithcrafte and Emrys Lucan, or the Head Boy, Anthony Carey. Of course you can always talk to any of the other professors or prefects here. We are all willing to help.”

Diana then turned to show them the notice board which was by the door to the common room. “This is where announcements of any sort will be posted. All students are encouraged to utilize this board. It is also where Quidditch try-outs will be posted. Again students of all ages are welcome to sign-up. The Quidditch captain is Mr. Carey.” Though she didn’t follow Quidditch, Diana was rather proud that her house had won the Quidditch cup the previous year and seemed to have a record of doing so in years before that too, two years ago being an exception.”

"If you have any questions about the school or your first day tomorrow you may ask me now or find one of the prefects or myself later on—” Diana realized that some students might be too nervous to admit to confusion in front of a large group. “Otherwise you can go unpack your belongings which the prairie elves should have brought up for you or stay here to mingle. However, I suggest trying to get some sleep for your big day tomorrow.”

OOC: Welcome to Aladren! You may now post on any board except other houses. Remember to check your posts to make sure they comply with site posting rules (ie: at least 200 words, good spelling/grammar, creativity, realism, and, of course, not writing for other author’s characters), all of which can be found here. Have fun!
