Letter for Lucas Smythe (WotW) by Anne Wright

Anne's initial reaction to finding out she was, yet again, Keeperless was a strong desire to throw everything she had that she could lift at the door. As she had a roommate who might take offense to projectile shoes if she attempted to enter, though, she refrained from doing so and settled for punching her pillow, trying to channel as much frustration as she could through the gesture. It worked well enough to be getting on with, so instead of indulging her temper any further, she went to her desk and crossed Hyana's name off the roster fixed to the top right corner of it. That done, she sat down, staring glumly at the wooden surface.

They still had, as far as she was aware, one alternate, so the team wasn't yet in dire straits, but things had definitely taken a turn for the worse. Anne focused on her penmanship as she loaded her quill with ink and started to write. If she didn't make an effort to make it neat, being upset rendered her handwriting completely unreadable. That was fine in her diary, but not when she was only writing a document for someone else's perusal. If one of those was a shade too sloppy to be deciphered, she had wasted her time writing it. She didn't have enough free time these days to want to waste any of it.

It didn't take her long to finish the letter even with the extra time taken in the interests of legibility. As Lucas, the intended recipient, was nowhere in sight when she went downstairs, Anne forced herself to brave the population of the owlery to get the message where it needed to go. After it was well on its way, she went straight back to her dorm and immediately climbed into bed to take a nap.

Lucas,

I hope you had a good midterm.

Hyana is gone, which leaves our House Quidditch team in need of a Keeper. As the team alternate, you get the first offer to fill the slot. If you don't think you can, inform me as soon as possible. If you can, you'll begin woring on Keeping exclusively at our next practice.

Regards,

Anne Wright

Here for keeper... and umm sorry for late reponse by Lucas Smythe

[OOC - very sorry for late (practical lack of) response. I'm here now and I'll be making an effort to stick around!] BIC:

Lucas had been lazing on his bed reading through some notes he'd made in class, wondering how on earth any of the professors could read his writing, when an owl (that he was sure appeared from nowhere) dropped a letter at his side.

"Uhh... thanks." He said to the owl, putting his notes down and sitting upright. He picked up the letter and opened it, a bizarre grimace forming on his face as he did so and caught sight of some of the words.

'Hyana is gone... Quidditch... keeper... alternate... first offer...'

A strange noise escaped from his lips, somewhere between a groan of disappointment at Hyana leaving and a laugh of excitement at being the quidditch keeper for good. His parents would definitely be proud of that!

He picked up the pencil that he kept on his bedside table and ripped off a spare piece of parchment from his scrawled class notes and wrote a quick reply.

To professor Wright

Lucas wasn't exactly sure how to address her, so decided that this was the safest option despite her signing her own note as 'Anne Wright'.

Thank you for the letter, I will be happy to be the full time keeper. Sad to hear about Hyana though.

Lucas

It was short, but it was to the point. He gently tied it back around the owl's leg before petting the bird's head.

"You're kinda nice," he told it, "I'm gonna have to get me an owl sometime." He stopped stroking it and pushed his fringe from his face, "Take this to Anne Wright."

He smiled to himself as the owl left - full time keeper? That would be great fun.
