Anne Wright

September 06, 2007 5:52 PM
Anne's jaw was set as she marched into the Aladren Common Room, a clipboard in left hand and her wand in her right. She and Gray had fussed over the notice for several hours the day before term began, and were very pleased with how it had turned out, though Anne would only be really happy with it once it drew her in a full team and, in the best-case scenario, a handful of alternates to boot.

Reaching her destination, she took the parchment off of its clipboard and fastened it to the notice board with a single flick of her wand. The very neat, straight writing and most of the design had come from her cousin, but the charms work was Anne's. The flashing blue-and-black letters stunned her eyes for a moment, but that was sort of the point: once the prospective players shook off the effect, they might get to reading the notice and decide to sign up.

Satisfied with her handiwork, Anne headed back for her dorm room, privately hoping that the pretty colors and straight-for-once lines would work and make it so she neither had to make it up with Geoff nor beg Bella to come back again.

Aladren Quidditch Team Try-Outs

Do you like Quidditch?

If so, just sign your name on one of the lines below!* Team try-outs will begin soon. Returning team members will still need to sign up so we know how many vacancies there are, if any. Walk-on candidates will be accepted at try-outs.

It's going to be a great season!

See you on the Pitch,

Anne Wright

The scrawled signature was the only part of the sign any of the team's veterans would find familiar, as Anne had signed it herself. Just beneath it, in a reversion to her cousin's much neater handwriting, a note had been added:

*Due to new rules, only students second year and up may try out/play for House teams. This is a school policy, not a team one. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Please include your first and last name, along with the position you wish to play. Thanks!

A series of straight lines marched down the remainder of the parchment, the topmost including a sample sign-up to use as a model:

Hyana Kamiya

September 06, 2007 6:42 PM
She was back! And Hyana knew exactly what she wanted to do. It had been one of the highlights of her first year, and she was ready to do it again. Quidditch! Her black hair bounced as she bounded to the Sign up sheet.

She had let the opposing team score once, but she had practiced every chance a muggleborn like her could during the summer. Her soon to be stepfather even offered to try and get her a broom. He was a muggle though, so she refused. Besides, she didn't like him.

She pulled out her quill with a big grin on her face, and wrote:

Hyana Kamiya, Keeper

She then practically ran to her dorm room, to see how her roomate's summers had gone.

Paul Tarwater

September 06, 2007 7:00 PM
Paul had just taken a shower, and poked downstairs to see whether Quidditch had started yet as Lussni followed behind him. Paul had yet to get a new broom or bat, having not been able to get a job over the summer (who said thirteen year olds can't be hired? what a Muggle rule!) so he still had his father's hand-me-downs. Which were alright with him, until he had the money many things were alright with him.

Other than Cissy, but that was certainly a far different story.

Sonora was healthier for Paul though. Three square meals a day, more meals with more food than he was able to get at home. A hide out from his sister, in the Aladren common room. And Quidditch. The main three reasons he'd stopped trying to get kicked out. Here he was as a third year, only four more years to go and he'd be free from his family (still supporting them of course) and free from Cissy.

Paul looked immediately to the bulletin board as Lussni purred against his heels. Paul hadn't noticed, yes Quidditch sign ups were up! Paul beamed and held his quill out to scratch down his name.

Zack Dill

Zack stepped back in surprise as he moved toward the bulletin board, his own notice in hand detailed when his prefect station in the library would be manned. He blinked a little at the bright flashing colors, then forced himself to actually read what they said. Oh. Anne had gone all out this year.

With a shake of his head and a small grin, he posted his own sign (which was very drab by comparison, but what do you expect for an office hours announcement?) then pulled out a pen to add his own name under Anne's, Hyanna's, and Paul's.

Zack Dill, Seeker

He hadn't caught the snitch in years and after his broken leg and subsequent fall last game, he'd considered dropping the sport, but the call of the Snitch was too great. After all, who could turn down playing games with real bona fide aliens?

Zoey Welsh

September 06, 2007 8:00 PM
Zoey was now in a walking cast having broken her ankle during the summer playing Basketball. Her mother had told her to go see Wolfe once school started again, but since Zoey only had a week or so left in the cast, she thought a trip there was pointless this late in the game. Besides, everyone had signed her cast, she rather liked it.

Limping across the room to snag the comfy chair near the fire, Zoey caught a glimpse of the Quidditch sign-up list. Much like every year, Zoey hesitated before drawing any nearer. She knew that since she had been on the team for so long the likelihood of her losing her position was slim, despite the broken ankle, but Zoey still felt so uncertain to how Anne truly felt about her. Dillon always told her to just ignore it, but still...

Sighing, Zoey plucked a pen from her bag and quickly posted her name onto the sign up. Her lips curved slightly downward at the new policy wondering what would happen if they didn't have enough, but otherwise said nothing as her pen scratched against the parchment.

Zoey Welsh, Chaser

One last look at her signature and those already posted and Zoey limped the rest of her way over to the comfy chair.

Chris Dupree

September 09, 2007 2:39 PM
Chris had been on his way out of the Common room when he noticed the Quidditch sign up sheet. He had been on the team, as Keeper, during his first two years. During his second year, some personal issues had gotten the better of him, and he knew he wasn't able to be there for the team. From then on, he had opted to remove himself from the team rather than continue to let anyone down.

Now, though, things were different. His family life was a bit of a mess, but now he knew how to balance everything. It made a world of difference. And he missed Quidditch. He loved the thrill of it all, wanted that again. He knew his chances of being on the team were slim, but he figured what the heck. Even if he didn't, at least, he wouldn't regret trying. So, with this thought in mind, he pulled a quill out of his bag to add his name.

Lucas Smythe

September 10, 2007 5:20 AM
Lucas raised his brow at the sheet sparkling blue and black that was pinned to the noticeboard in the common room. He simply stared at it for a couple of seconds until curiosity got the better of him.

He pushed his long fringe from his face and wandered over, peering at it. It was times like these that he was glad to be in Aladren since the blue and black flashes probably weren't half so bad as something you'd experience in Teppenpaw or Crotalus with their sort-of brighter colours.

He tilted his head to the side and squinted at the paper, somehow it made it easier to read. "Quidditch..." he mumbled, reading through the rest of the page.

If he were to join the quidditch team, perhaps that would redeem him from 'The Speech' he was going to get from his parents after they'd found out that his cousin, Cecily, had been sorted into Crotalus - they had been a little disappointed that Lucas had not. Cecily wasn't even their daughter - thank Merlin.

On the other hand, last year he did find it a little bit difficult to keep up with his school work, though it really was more out of procrastination than anything else. If he got himself into gear this year, surely he could cope with quidditch on the side - right?

He mentally shrugged and sighed, once again pushing his fringe from his face. It was then that he noticed something, the thing that made up his mind for him - Hyana had signed up. It would be okay if he at least had a... friend? on the team. He wasn't sure if he could really call her a friend since they didn't know each other too well yet, but Lucas thought that he wouldn't mind having her as a friend, she seemed very nice, at least.

He didn't have to decide what position he wanted to play - if ever he played with his cousins, he was always a chaser. He didn't feel quite violent or enough to be a beater, he was sure that he'd get nervous about being a keeper and miss everything, and he knew that there were better seekers out there - but chaser he seemed to do quite well with.

He pushed his fringe from his eye again and pulled a pencil from his pocket, leaning over to scrawl his mark onto the sheet:

Lucas Smythe, chaser

He smirked - at least if he suddenly did change his mind before the sheet got taken down, he had written in pencil so he could just erase his name. 'Nah,' he thought, 'this could be really fun.'

Ben Stafford

September 17, 2007 11:00 PM
Ben was distressed to find that he had somehow missed out on the posting of the quidditch sign up sheet. It astounded him that his mind could be so preoccupied as to forget wholly about signing up for quidditch this year! With all the haste he could muster, Ben made down to the commons to track down the sheet. Already covered in names of Aladren team hopefuls, Ben added his name to the list in a casual script.
