Delivery from Irene Liddowe/Uncle Mike. by School Owl- Let's call him Coda

Coda blinked as a small girl entered his room. She gazed up and around, obviously searching for a responsible carrier. Coda ruffled his dark brown feathers importantly and fluttered down. She looked over and smiled. Success.

"Hey, can you bring this to Professor K?" She said kindly. Coda held his head high and held out his leg. Of course he could bring it to the Professor. He could do it faster than those other owls too.

Coda turned towards the open window, spread his wings, and soared out into the air. The letters attached to his leg were heavier than the last letter that he had carried but, nevertheless, he carried on toward the tower.

The first letter read:

Dear Professor K,

I wrote to Uncle Mike and he told me he would write a letter for me. The letter is in the other envelope.

Thanks!
Irene Liddowe

The second letter was much heavier and read:

Dear Professor K,

This is Mike Warren, Irene Liddowe's uncle. From what Irene tells me, you offered to let your students keep their puffskeins with permission from their parent/gaurdian. Irene lives with me but I am not her legal gaurdian. In her letter she told me that she had told you about the situation with Damon, her dad. What she tod you is true but there is more to it now. I haven't told her about it yet so I would appreciate if nothing was said.

Earlier in the year we met with Irene's aunt, uncle, and cousins. Apparently they ran into Damon a week after Irene met them. They don't know about her neglect when she was young and they don't know about his alcohol problems. They told him of how they had met us and when he asked where they told him that also. He has been here at the cottage once already. He wants to bring Irene back home because he is all alone. I think you know as much as I that she can't go back there. I don't think even she knows how bad it was there.

I am trying to keep Irene as out of this as possible. I don't want her getting upset and getting distracted with her work. I also can't have her contacting him and risking him knowing when she will be here for Christmas.

This seems like a big deal over a Puffskein, but Irene seems to really like it. She's a great kid. Someday I'm going to get those adoption papers for her.

That's our situation and I hope my permission is okay. We just can't risk him coming near her.

Thank you,
Mike Warren (Uncle Mike)

After making sure that both of his packages were properly delivered, Cod ruffled his feathers again and flew out the window.\n\n
