Lounging by Zoey Welsh

Zoey was a tall red-headed girl with splashes of freckles decorating her face. She was also a shy and studious girl who could always be found either in the library hunched over a stack of books getting her work done a week in advance, or in a corner somewhere within her own commonroom reading some entertaining book and ignoring all else.

This evening, Zoey happened to be sitting in her commonroom by the fire. This was her favorite spot to sit at and read. At fifteen, Zoey wasn't anything that she wanted to be. She was too tall, too skinny, too boyish. Her hair was too curly, her face too freckley, her skin too pale. And those were just the physical things about herself that Zoey could find wrong.

She sat in one of the comfy chairs reading a book about transfiguration. It wasn't a tipical book to be reading for fun, but Zoey had taken a liking to the subject and found it to be fascinating. More than that, she really like the idea of being able to change her appearance into a specific animal her body and mind most represent. Since the summer, Zoey had grown quite interested in becoming an Animigus.

There were rules and laws that she would have to follow, but she was eager to learn how it was done and wondered often what sort of animal her animigus form would be. She hoped it wasn't a giraffe.

At some point, Zoey must have fallen asleep because before she knew it, someone was shaking her awake and she was stretching stiffly in her seat. "Wha..?" She mumbled, the sleep still alluding her, "What's going on?"\n\n

A Pain in the Neck by Mika

Mika had come down and settled by the fire himself some time ago. It had taken him much effort to drag the big comfy chair close to the fire, but he had taken the time to do so. The older girl had been asleep since he had sat down. The chair was so big for Mika, that even with his long legs and sitting all the way back, his legs stuck out in front of him. Which was good, that was why he had picked this chair.

He had taken his leg braces off and changed into more comfortable clothes, a soft pair of yoga type pants, and a long sleeved tee-shirt. His feet were bare, which he very much enjoyed. It was rare that he had bare feet, because of his leg braces, and the special boots with his AFO (ankle and foot orthodics) built right into them. He knew he was going to be sitting quietly and reading though, so he had taken both his braces and his boots off.

His wheelchair was off in the corner where he had left it, when he had limped his way over to the comfy chair. He sat in his stupid wheelchair all day, and was sick of it. Mika had felt quite comfortable as he had read his book, the fire warming his sore joints. The girl though, was still asleep. Mika was starting to worry that she would get a bad crick in her neck.

Finally, he leaned forward, so far forward in fact, his chest was almost against his knees. There were some benefits to his physical condition, and hyper flexibility was one of them. He shook her knee a bit. When she started to wake, he straightened again, a skinny, pale little first year, with huge dark eyes behind thick glasses, and long black hair.

"Wha..?" She mumbled, "What's going on?"

Mika blinked at her serenely, his book, a rather heavy tome, open on his lap.

"You were asleep very long. I did not want you to hurt your neck." He said. Mika's voice was quiet, but not at all shy, with a fairly heavy Eastern European accent. He enunciated very carefully though, so his words were nice and clear.\n\n

In more ways than one by Zoey

It took Zoey a few minutes to shake the sleep away. She was groggy and slightly disoriented. For a moment, she thought she was back home in Vermont with her mother waking her to tell her she'd fallen asleep at the computer again. However, the sound of a foreign voice that spoke up to her to answer her queue.

Zoey blinked stupidly at the boy sitting across from her. When had he sat there? Or, for that matter, how long had she been asleep? Zoey's red locks were in tangled curls and half of her face was red from resting on the arm of the chair. After a moment to clear her head and figure out what exactly had happened, she smiled hesitantly at the boy.

"Oh, sorry." Zoey mumbled, unsure exactly to what she was apologizing for but figured it was the best thing to say at the moment. "Thanks. I guess I shouldn't read so much by the fire. I always end up falling asleep." Zoey said by way of explanation. "Anyway, I'm Zoey, forgive my rattled appearance."\n\n

It is Okay by Mika

"It is okay." Mika said with a small smile. It was nothing to him if she slept by the fire. "I just did not want you to get a crick in your neck. I am Mika'el. You can please to call me Mika." He pushed his glasses up on his nose. She looked quite a bit older than he was.

He wasn't sure what to say about the girl's appearence, that didn't really matter to him either. "I am pleased to meet you." He said after a moment of pause. "What is it that you are reading?\n\n

I'm glad by Zoey

"That's nice of you." Zoey said. Most people wouldn't have looked twice at her if they had known she was sleeping. Well, Zack might have looked at her, might have tried to wake her, but she doubted it. He was more likely to not want to wake her than actually wake her. So, the fact that this kid was nice enough to wake her in worry she'd get a pain in her neck was a nice gesture.

"That's an interesting name, Mika." Zoey commented. From the way the boy was speaking, she would guess he was from Germany or around there. Though, she was going on movie accents and not from actual knowledge. "Is that like Michael?" She had no idea why she asked it, it just fell straight out of her mouth.

Zoey looked at the book in her hands. A small blush of embarrassment seeped into her freckled cheeks. "Oh, well, it's about transfiguration. Nothing too entertaining or special." Zoey explained. "It's my favorite subject, so I guess I just like to read as much of it as I can. Lame, I know."\n\n
