A Notice

May 28, 2005 10:47 AM
In the Aladren common room, a piece of parchment was posted by the entrance for all to see. Neatly printed letters in a navy blue ink, a message was written at the top of the paper, with extra space at the bottom for responses. It read as follows:

Attention all Aladren students:
Try outs for Quidditch House teams will be taking place shortly. All positions for chasers, beaters, seeker, and keeper are open, students of all ages and experience levels may apply. Brooms and other equipment will be supplied for you, although you may use your own broom if you have one. If you are interested please send in your name, year, and position that you would like to play. Good luck!

Sincerely,
Coach Cooper

Rachel Tibbs

May 30, 2005 10:08 PM
Rachel walked out of her room swinging her bag around in front of her. She looked around trying to spot anyone she knew, not seeing anyone she was about to walk out to go look for a book when she noticed a new notice.

Interesting… very interesting she thought to herself. Walking over she noticed it was written by someone with a very steady hand. Skimming through it she saw the word quidditch, going back to the star she read it more carefully. Quidditch tryouts ohhhhh yay quidditch tryouts.

Fumbling through her pockets she found one of the many concealed quills, getting out one of the ink pots in her shoulder bag. Dipping the quill in she thought what to put my name down for? Putting the quill to the paper she wrote in her best handwriting:

Rachel Tibbs, First year, Chaser.

Taking away the quill she admired her work. Then she left the room wondering who else would sign up.

Zack Dill

May 31, 2005 7:52 AM
Zack Dill was a man on a mission. Sort of. He was on a mission anyway. A twelve year old who stood only 4 foot 5 probably didn't qualify as a man yet. He marched determinedly toward the notice board with two sheets of paper in hand and a box of thumbtacks in his pocket. He had to shift the Quidditch sign-up sheet over to make room for both of his papers to have room to hang next to each other.

The first was an offer to tutor in Astronomy or Potions. It had his name, rates (5 sickles for an hour of tutoring), and told everyone to refer to the second year boys' dorm for scheduling a session.

The second was an announcement that the first Aladren D&D quest was scheduled to begin next friday after dinner and anyone interested was welcome to attend. His player's guide, dungeon master guide, and monster manual had arrived in the mail that morning.

Zack stepped back to make sure both of his notices were hung straight, and nodded with satisfaction at his work. He wouldn't have even noticed the Quidditch sheet again, but it bother his sense of perfection since one corner was being underlapped by his tutoring notice. He added another pushpin to that sheet to make sure it was properly aligned with his notices.

Not once did it occur to him to put his name onto it.\n\n

Anne Wright

OOC: This is after the conversation Anne has with Zack. Thought I'd better go ahead and get it taken care of before I forget.

BIC:With great reluctance, Anne started towards the exit portal of the common room, resigned to the necessity of finding her cousin to deliver the joyous news that they would be spending the winter holidays together. So much for escaping the family. She had been hoping to stay at Sonora anyway, but praying that she and Gwenhwyfar would be separated by at least one state line. Oh, well, she thought dryly. At least she can literally have till Christmas to come out on top in our little deal.

She was just about to step out into the library when she noticed the parchment posted directly beside the entrance. Stepping back, she began to read it. Quidditch tryouts would be taking place soon. She began playing with the ends of her hair as she considered it. Only one other person had signed up so far, her roomate Rachel. She bit her lip, thinking. On one hand, it had been a good while since she played Quidditch. On the other, no one seemed to be signing up, and she had been good, once. She had flown as well as ever at the flying lesson, so why shouldn't she play the game as well as ever? It wouldn't hurt anything to go to tryouts, and it would make Grandmother St. Martin furious. She pulled a pen out of her bag and put her information beneath Rachel's.

Anne Wright, First Year, Chaser.

Satisfied with her handiwork and grateful that she had mostly given up quills, she put the pen away and left the common room to go about her searching. She took a deep breath as the hidden doorway closed behind her. The smell of all the books in the library could always calm her.\n\n

Zoey

June 10, 2005 5:43 PM
Zoey wandered down from her dorm room. She had no idea where any of her usual roommates were, but figured they were off having an adventure without her. She surpressed a sigh at that thought pausing briefly at the bottom of the stairs to figure out what she should do next.

Since starting here at Sonora, Zoey hadn't made many friends. Making them was terribly difficult for her as she had a tendency to ignore others. Dillon was the people person, not her. In fact, all of their friends had originally been Dillon's first. She thought that being here (and a whole year older) she would make friends at least with one or two people. And she did...last year. But she hardly ever sees any of those girls anymore and now she's left to explore the school and make even more knew friends. The thought of that made a nervous quiver in the pit of her stomach.

Sighing this time outloud, Zoey made her way over to one of the large overstuffed chairs when a notice on the board caught her attention. Making a beeline for the board, Zoey noticed the Quidditch sign-ups. Last year she had had a wonderful time practicing with the rest of their class. She even somewhat enjoyed the feeling the broom gave her (after much hesitation and being poked fun of by her brother). Zoey shuffled through her bag for a moment and pulled out a quill. Quickly making up her mind, she signed up her name.

Bella

June 12, 2005 2:53 PM
Bella climbed through the bookcase entrance into the Aladren Commonroom with a book in hand. Reading was just something she had always done. Learning, understanding, exploring, it was how she lived her life. Of course, she knew that any true Aladren would feel the same as her.

Because her attention was only on the book in her hand, she wasn't aware of just how close to the side wall she was until she ran smack into it and nearly fell over from the impact. Hoping she hadn't been spotted for her klumsiness, Bella looked around quickly before turning to glare at the spiteful wall. It was then that she noticed the parchment hung neatly on the wall. She moved around to get a better look and realized it was for the Quidditch sign-up. She took out her quill (by far her favorite as it was a gift from Julie with Bella's name etched into it in gold letters set upon royal marble to represent Aladren) and signed herself up eagerly.

Benjamin

June 12, 2005 6:14 PM
Walking in, Ben didn't noticed anything in his commonroom that was any different. People were sitting around, reading, but that was a common sighting in his house. Sometimes he wondered if he truly belonged here, in this house. It seemed like more people were book wormy and studious than anything else. That was him, but not all of him, like some people.

He plopped himself on one of the ridiculously comfy couches and as he took a small survey of the room itself, a piece of parchment tacked up by the door caught his attention. Ben got up to investigate, bringing his bookbag along with him. Quidditch Teams! he thought excitedly to himself, This is great!

Withdrawing a quill from his bag, Ben wrote in his flowy handwriting:

Benjamin Stafford V, First Year, Seeker.\n\n

Chris Dupree

July 21, 2005 1:49 PM
He could not believe he had nearly missed it. The one thing he had been waiting for since the moment he had stepped foot onto Sonora's grounds. There posted on the Common Room's board were the Qudditch Team Tryouts. This was the first step to his goal to playing for an international team, and he had nearly missed it!

Scanning the list quickly, he noticed the only positions that were really open were Beater and Keeper. He breathed a deep sigh of relief that Keeper was still open. Fumbling with his bag, Chris quickly pulled out a quill to jot down his information.

With his hand on the wall next to the board for support, he wrote:

Chris Dupree, First Year, Keeper

Giving it another look over, he was satisfied to see his name written there with the word Keeper next to it. Throwing his quill back in his back, he headed towards breakfast with his head swimming with Quidditch dreams.\n\n
