The walk to the hallway containing Crotalus' entry point was not made at quite so brisk a pace as she normally set, but it still didn't allow much room for dawdling. She did not want any further delay in reacquainting herself with her pillow. She had done this often enough since becoming Head of Crotalus that she made the remarks pointing out significant landmarks and pointing down relevant hallways that lead to each of the core subject classrooms without needing much brainpower for it. Eventually, though, she came to a stop beside a tall painting that began only two inches above the ground and reached up to five and a half feet up the wall depicting a rather grotesque life-size individual. "This is Gunther the Zombie," she introduced the undead painted man. "He guards our common room. To gain entrance, you must give him the password. Tonight, it is candle-wax." She turned to the zombie as she said the password and the frame swung out into the hallway, revealing a hole in the wall behind it.

"Please step through the entrance into the commonroom," she instructed the first years, then followed behind them once they had all passed through. At five foot five, she did not technically need to duck to make it through, but it was a near enough thing that she did so anyway. Inside, there were a half dozen matching armchairs and couches, with maroon upholstery and silver trim. The carpet was gray and the walls were a tasteful shade of red that Amelia, for one, had been relieved to find was not as vibrant a hue as she might have feared when she first heard the House colors were red and silver. "The password," she continued as soon as they were all inside and the frame had closed behind them, "will be posted on the bulletin board there," she pointed it out on the wall beside the door built into the back of Gunther's frame. "Do not share the password or the location of our Common Room with anyone outside of Crotalus. The password changes weekly so be sure to check the board regularly."

"Also on the board you'll find notices about other things happening in the school, such as Quidditch try-outs, clubs, tutoring opportunities, and so forth." She was off-script for the speech already and she was sure she normally had a better segue into the part where she named the House authorities, but she couldn't for the life of her remember what it was, so she just jumped to that information without transition. "Your House prefects this year are Topher Calhoun - who is also our Quidditch Captain, Paul Bennett, and Alexandra Deveraux. Mr. Calhoun's Assistant Captain is Linus Maculay. Any of them or I will be available to answer questions or help you with any issues that may arise."

"There are several rules you are expected to follow. Curfew is a ten. You are not required to be in bed at that hour, but the lights will dim, Gunther will not allow anyone back inside, and anyone caught outside of Crotalus or making too much noise will receive a detention. Telling students in other Houses the password will earn you a detention. Being disrespectful to each other or the staff will earn you a detention. Boys going up the girls' stairwell or girls going up the boys stairwell will be magically ejected from that stairwell, and you will need to find your own way to the hospital wing." In truth, the last part was exaggerated. Students going up the wrong one would merely be deposited back in the middle of the commonroom, perhaps a bit disoriented but no worse for wear. She just thought her way of saying it was a more effective deterrent.

"Overall, though, as long as you follow simple courtesies, we should have no problems. My office can be reached from the hall outside or from that door right there," she pointed it out. "If I'm not in, I have wards that let me know someone is waiting, and I will get to you as quickly as I can. Anyone is welcome to stop by at any time to discuss any subject. I'll do my best to resolve any issues or problems you may have, be it that you wish the Prairie Elves would make your favorite dish once in a while, or something much more significant. If you just want to talk to somebody about something, I can do that, too. Also, I encourage you to talk to your prefects, if you would rather talk to another student. That's why they were given badges."

Having found her way back to her usual speech, she finished up as she always did, pointing toward the leftmost of the two staircases leading out of the room. "Boys, your dorms are up there. Girls, you have the stairs to the right. Look for the door with your year number on it. Does anyone have any questions?" She dearly hoped they did not so she could get some much needed sleep.

OOC: You are now allowed to post anywhere on the site, though obviously, your character doesn't have access to the other common rooms. Please keep to the standard posting rules and minimum posting length (two paragraphs, each paragraph averaging around five sentences). Have fun and welcome to Sonora!
