An Invitation (All Crotalus Girls Years 2-7) by Lila St. Martin

This was the part of her plan than Lila hated. Though she might still be able to carry the general idea off without the House, it would go much more smoothly with it, and no legal plan she had come up with could ensure the full and unquestioning cooperation of the other Crotalus girls. It was something to be in control of the seventh year girls' dorm, but the lack of competition for the title also took something away from the prestige that lent her.

At the last moment, she had almost chickened out of sending the invitations she'd spent so long working on. What if she wasn't important enough to pay attention to? Lack of sleep, however, was great at lowering inhibitions, and Lila's last full night of it had been on August 30. On the third day of term, every Crotalus girl above first year, from socialites to total nobodies, received an invitation written in swirling gold calligraphy on thick, expensive parchment.
