Dancing on Air TAG: Lutece by Talitha Cumni

Talitha raced back to Crotalus. She couldn’t believe what just happened! There were a million thing to do. She had to get her parents to agree, she had to get robes, she had to stop biting her nails, she had to find Lutece!

She highly doubted her feet touched the ground all the way to her room. Opening the door with a bang, she did a couple of pirouettes before landing on her bed. Funny, before she could care less if she had a date or not. She’d already decided to go without one and enjoy herself anyway, but now that Adam asked her to go, well, that just made it all the better. She grabbed her pillow and hugged it, giggling. Her roomies probably thought that she had lost her mind and Talitha didn’t care one little bit. It was going to be the best time ever!

Still hugging her pillow, Talitha rolled over on her tummy, feet in the air, ankles crossed, and grinning like a Cheshire cat. To blazes with the cautionary advise Chrissy gave her. Adam would be a perfect gentleman. She had nothing to worry about.

“Guess who’s got a date for the ball?” She announced to the room.

And here, finally. by Lutece Anthony

Lutece was quietly doing her homework. Ever since she had started to do it, she had actually found it quite interesting. Not only that, but her grades had also gone up considerably. It was that sort of logical progression that James would be teasing her about. If she still exchanged owls with anyone in her family. Which she didn't. Sure, there was the occasional one from her dad, but the rest of them seemed perfectly fine to forget her. Well, excepting her dad and Lissa, anyway. Lissa was older, though, and had only taken to writing her younger half-sister recently. Lutece was sure that this action did not bode well. Liss was being much too caring and delicate for it to bode well. But it didn't matter. Soon enough she would be stuck home alone for the summer and she would find out exactly what was going on in the house. Actually, at the rate things were going, Lutece would have been secure in betting that her parents were going to get a divorce.

It didn't upset her, really. She had never seen how they had even gotten married, or stayed together this long. Lutece's parents were polar opposites. She took after her mother--gorgeous, fashionable, socially aware. Her father was a geek by any definition. He arranged science fiction conventions for heaven sakes. Nobody could deny that the line of work was geeky, and worst of all, her father actually enjoyed it.

No, it didn't upset her. Nor would it really effect her. Her parents would probably be awarded some sort of dual custody job, since that seemed to be the norm from what she had gotten from Liss and her friends back home with divorced parents. Lutece, however, attended a boarding school. Therefore cutting her out of the equation for the majority of the year.

Ironic that she would be appreciating Sonora when at this time last year she was doing her best to get out of it. Then again, life's ironies could be useful sometimes, and this seemed to be one of those times. Lutece was perfectly willing to swallow her pride and spend an excessive amount of time at a school that taught 'magic' (the skeptical emphasis now on the word more out of habit than actual disbelief) if it meant that her belongings and life was safe from the prying eyes of her mother and siblings. Plus it meant a break from the daily family conflicts and more autonomy than would have been otherwise expected of a twelve-almost-thirteen year old.

The recumbent girl wrote in handwriting that was slightly less neat than usual, due to the dual problems of writing in actual ink for once and the fact that lying down on one's bed isn't the best position to be writing anything. Of course, then the door opened with a bang, Lutece jumped (thankfully the ink did not spill), and Talitha pirouetted into the room and made an announcement that made her stomach burn with jealousy and eyes momentarily burn before the brunette sat up properly to face her roommate.

"You! Ohmygod!" Lutece replied excitedly, capping her ink bottle and putting both the bottle and quill on her bedside table, next to the latest Clique novel. "Who?! When?! Where?!" Despite her own jealousy, she really was curious and (shockingly) happy for her only friend. The Crotalus jumped over to Talitha's bed and bounced on it next to her. "Details! I need details!" she squeaked.

'Bout Time! by Talitha

Talitha sat up, grabbed her pillow and hugged it as an anchor because she felt as though she may float to the ceiling any moment. She was so happy that someone actually asked her that there was this weird light feeling in her tummy. It was so amazing that she could share it with Lutece.

“Of course, I have to ask my parents’ permission.” Talitha started talking very fast. “And they have to okay a gown and all. Oh, and please, please, please do my hair? And say you'll help me with my makeup? ‘Cause you are so good at that and I want to look my best! Won’t it great when we come down the stairs to the Common Room all dress up? I can’t wait!”

Talitha stopped to breath and realized she hadn’t answered Lutece’s question. How stupid of her. She was way too excited. She took a deep breath and plunged on.

“Okay, this fourth year talked to me in the Gardens.” She began her story. “He was so nice and spoke to me like I was a girl instead of a little kid. Then we’ve talked a couple of times after that and he was so nice. Then just now, in the library, we were talking about next year’s schedule and how he’d help me with my studies and … out of the blue… he asked me and I said ‘Yes!' Oh, yeah, it’s Adam Brockert! You know, you’ve seen him…he’s a Crotalus student too!”
