Letters to Home [WotW] by Anabel McIntosh

Dear Mommy and Daddy Mom and Dad, Anabel started, taking a glance around the common room. Girls her age didn't call their parents 'Mommy' or 'Daddy', especially once they were off at school. Being an only child, the separation Anabel felt from her parents was quite acute. Although only a mere days had passed since she had left home, Anabel already missed her parents and longed for contact with them. Shifting in her seat, Anabel turned her gaze away from the common room and back toward the parchment in front of her.

How are things at home? I hope that Comet isn't giving you too much trouble. Tell him I'm sorry that I couldn't bring him. It's so unfair that we can only bring one pet to school. Let him know that I would have brought him, but I figured that it'd be better to have Orion instead so I could write you.

Seated in a chair near the window, Anabel looked outside, watching as the sun set under the horizon before returning her attention to her letter.

Things are going pretty well here. It's nice to be the first McIntosh to ever attend here. I was sorted into Crotalus, which I hope makes you proud. I've heard that Crotalus is a very good house to be sorted into, so our research on the school proved to be correct. Their sorting was very strange though. It was nothing like the Sorting Hat, that is rumored to be at Hogwarts, or the Determining Globe at Salem. They make us drink this potion in a goblet that turns us into our house colors. I turned red.

I've made a few friends as well. Some of my roommates are so weird, though. Luckily, Cecily Smythe is one of my roommates and she claimed the bed next to mine. Without her, I have to wonder if I'd like living in my room for the next seven years. Renaye Warren, she's one of the Warrens, is just terrible. And there's this Muggle-born, Laurie, who is also in our room. They're horrid and I can't believe I have to room with them.

I've also made friends with Chelsea Brockert. I know you've heard of the Brockerts and I just wanted you to know that their daughter is very nice. We were partners together in History of Magic and I think we'll get along great. Sadly, she's in Aladren, which is known for being the smart house, but we have a lot of classes together so we still get to hang out a lot.

There's also Holly. She's Muggle-born, but she's really cool. Her mom's one of those Muggle movie stars. You know, the ones that Leslie and Lizzy are always talking about. I didn't think to ask Holly what her mother's name is but I'm sure Leslie or Lizzy have heard of her. She's very nice, but she got stuck in Pecari.

At this, Anabel paused as she tried to collect her thoughts. What to say next? So much had happened at school that she really didn't know where to begin. She also wasn't sure that she really wanted to talk about all of it.

People here are always fighting for the advocacy of some cause or another. I guess students here feel that they have to be in support of something. Just the other day in History of Magic, this girl and boy got into an argument over the supposed mistreatment of Muggle students at Sonora. The boy said that he was fighting for Muggle communications and sports to be offered at the school and the girl obviously took offense at something he said. Honestly, I thought it was all off topic from what we were discussing anyways.

My roommate Renaye is thinking about talking with Coach Fox about allowing first years to tryout for the team. It seems rather silly to me as we should all be more worried about our studies instead of flying anyways. There are some people who have hardly any manners. Do you think Sonora would think about teaching etiquette? I heard that they just added History of Magic.

I miss you all the time, but I'm doing fine. I hope you are both great. I'll write you soon and I hope to hear from you soon as well.

Love you both bunches and bunches,

Anabel

Sighing heavily, Anabel placed her quill on the table before her. She was just sealing the parchment when she heard someone approaching.\r\n\r\n
