Miss Me? by Nicoletta Dupree

Nicoletta sat curled up like a cat in one of the overstuffed chairs in the Common room. There was parchment on her lap and a quill in hand, as she wrote home to tell her parents everything that had been happening at school.

Not that there was much to tell, things had quieted down since the episode with Gwen, Catherine, and herself. It had been quite an interesting turn of events. Asher and Gwen had claimed that their group were better friends with each other and her group would fall first, yet it had been quite the opposite. She smiled at that memory. Yes, Purebloods that stuck with the traditional values always won.

Turning back to her letter, Nicoletta added that Jordanna Howard had returned. Her parents had been thrilled her First Year when she had written home telling them that she was friends with a Howard. Their daughter knew how to make friends with the right sort. Unfortunately, this didn't apply to her twin.

Chris had been seen lately with Kaylie Brockert. She played Quidditch and had about the whiniest brother in the world. She rolled her eyes. Talk about polluting the House. He didn't derserve to be in their noble House. Their saving grace was that they were Purebloods and they were well thought of, even if their values were skewed.

Nicoletta was interrupted out of her thoughts by someone speaking to her.\n\n

Not the Howard you'd expect by Jenna Howard

If anyone were to ask Jenna on the matter, she'd say she thought the whole thing was a load of crud. A ploy of her sister's to increase her own popularity. Of course, nobody had thought to ask the pale teen, and so her opinions remained unsaid while she was forced to play the part of the messenger.

Apparently their father had been too lazy or too busy orchestrating fanciful parties to take the time to separate the two letters he had sent to his daughters. The envelope ended up being addressed to the older of the two sisters, and that was where the trouble began.

Jenna's letter had been, in her opinion, unimporant. Just the usual dull quips she was used to receiving from her father about how she was too quiet and how she was antisocial and should join in her sister's efforts to putting the Howards on top of the social ladder. Really, it was amazing what her father hadn't noticed- like the muggle hat she had only recently relinquished to the various magazine subscriptions she had been getting from various alchemy institutions. She expected more from him, although she was glad for his ignorance.

Then she had turned to her sister's letter. Now, really, nobody should be surprised- she was a Howard for Merlin's sake, and not exempt from Howard tendencies. Mostly the letter was boring, praising her for her party and all. It also contained a very unflattering bit in their mother's handwriting about Jordanna's acne problem.

The perfect blackmail.

Now all she had to do was find Jordanna and gloat- or even possibly try to get something out of it. Of course, the latter would come long after she had done a lot of the former. After all, this was the best news Jenna had had in weeks.

Letter in the pocket of tired looking black robes, she checked Jordanna's dorm, but she was not there. Upon descending from the dormitories to the common room, a smirk upon her face, she noticed one of Jordanna's little alliances she remembered from a year ago sitting on the couch. Twirling her fingers around chin length brown hair, the girl figured she could test how close they were and possibly find out the location of her sister.

"You wouldn't happen to know where Jordanna is at the moment, would you?" Jenna asked the girl in standard formm, standing about a yard away from her.\n\n

No, but you'll do by Nicoletta

Looking up, Nicoletta could say that she was honestly surprised to see Jenna Howard standing there. The expression was brief, as she quickly recovered. She allowed her face and eyes to become expressionless, as she had been taught, until she learned what the unknown would bring. She had rather been hoping that it had been Jordanna or Catherine though, but unfortunately, one did not always get what one wanted.

Slowly, she allowed her eyes to travel over the other girl. What purpose did she have? Jenna wasn't exactly what one would called a proper pureblood.

With a perfectly practiced arched eyebrow raise, she replied, "It depends. Why do you want to know?"

She really didn't know where her friend was, but she wasn't about to reveil that. One was never to show their hand to soon.\n\n

You say that as if you had some sort of choice by Jenna Howard

Jenna watched as Nicoletta did the whole pureblood routine, diplomatic answer and all. Trouble was, although the pale girl knew it was routine, she had no idea what it could possibly be hiding. The girl had never been great with the subtleties of humans, she never truly took the time to notice most of them any more than she had to. This was just all to frustrating for the fourth year, she just wanted her information so she could go on to the good part- the part where she got to strike a deal with her sister. Deliberating what to do next, she figured it was time to be blunt. And if Nicoletta truly knew anything (or if she didn't) then the younger girl would have to be blunt, too.

"Look," Jenna said barely masking the frustration as she sat to the left of the girl and folding her arms, keeping her stare foward, "This is taking time away from my studying time. I like studying, I like getting good grades. Makes me look good to the family- but you know how that is.

"So right now I'm being nice to Jordie by giving up my free time to try to tell her about some family business," she might as well have said 'stuff-that's-none-of-your-business', "And obviously you know that Jordie likes to be in the know about these things, and how my sister gets when she finds out that she found out later than she could've," there she was using the nickname Jordanna loathed again, "If you don't know, fine. However, if you're holding out on me, then you're wasting my time. You're lowering my grades," she finally turned to face Nicoletta, "I don't like people lowering my grades. You'll have Jordie and me to deal with. You don't want that," that's it, her frustration was out, but so what, people from her family acted this way all the time, and Jenna had seen speaking to people in this manner could be an efficient way of getting what you wanted fast with the only drawback being that people didn't like you so much when you spoke in that manner.

"So you tell me- do you know where Jordie is, or do you not?"\n\n

I always have one, regardless if you know it or not by Nicoletta

If Nicoletta had been a kitten, she would have been purring. It was amusing to see the other girl so worked up over simple politics.

A delicate eyebrow raise and a smirk on her face, she said in the same blunt tone, "You looking good to your family is of no importance to me."

Getting up out of the chair, she got right into Jenna's face and with a very low warning tone, she continued, "And I suggest you don't threaten me. I don't respond well."

She circled around the girl, allowing her nails to trace along the other girl's shoulders. With sweetness dripping from her voice, "Now, because Jordanna is one of my best friends and because I know the importance of family business will I tell you."

Coming to face Jenna again, Nicoletta had an innocent look on her face, "Now, don't tell anyone..."

She shifted her eyes, like she had some sort of secret.

Her eyes wide and very seriously, Nicoletta said, "I don't know where she is."

The smirk now back where it belonged. Nicoletta waited for Jenna's reaction.

Sorry, but we aren't in your dreams by Jenna Howard

It was times like these Jenna wasn't sure whether she should get mad or start laughing. On one hand, she was in no way closer to her goal of locating and eventually even possibly blackmailing (which would be vital for the success of her summer plans) her sister. The third year had successfully wasted five minutes of the brunette’s life that she would never get back. She’d make a reminder to herself to slip something interesting into the Dupree girl’s drink if she ever annoyed her again. Then again, the solemnity with which Nicoletta seemed to regard the situation was utterly hilarious to Jenna. Having her around was amusing, true, but there were bigger and better things Jenna needed to do. Like actually finding her sister. But first, she had to deal with the annoying problem of the third year Jordanna-sympathizer out of the way.

Folding her arms and allowing her black robes to become even more wrinkled the small-framed girl gave off a suppressed laugh that came out as more of a snort, as she pushed aside at Nicoletta’s arm nonchalantly. The pale girl didn’t like physical contact of any kind, especially when it was meant in a threatening way- which was what Jenna believed Nicoletta was trying to do.

“Now really, was that so hard?” she asked when jadedly referring to the other girl’s lack of knowledge of Jordanna’s whereabouts. Sliding to the left on the couch to get away from Jordanna’s little friend, she got up from the couch and took several steps toward the exit before stopping to turn around.

“And don’t worry about me telling anyone,” the girl tucked back a strand of wild brown hair hanging over her face back behind her ear. Because really, Jenna thought as she continued walking off, who would really care? The girl didn’t realize she had voiced her thoughts aloud.
