Amy Fox

The parchment was made of recycled paper, it's texture rather rough and bumpy- primarily due to the fact that Amy had had to use paper that had already been used (thus the recycled bit). The colour was rather faded, giving it a slightly yellow tint.

If one looked close enough, they would have noticed that there were obvious dents in the surface, caused, primarily, from Amy's numerous efforts to concoct a semi-serious notice.

The writing was in all caps, the quill markings rather deep and defined.

Lila had signed up for the Crotalus Quidditch team. At the time, it had intrigued her, and the short description of the game had only intensified that intrigue. So she'd put her name down, saying she'd play anything.

The fact that she didn't know how to fly yet, let alone play, hadn't exactly seemed to matter. Now that there was a notice up about flying lessons, it did matter. After all, she had to learn to fly. And it would certainly be best to learn to fly at a proper flying lesson. Plus, the second year who'd explained Quidditch had mentioned it. There wasn't an issue with taking the flying lesson that she could think of.

So there wasn't a doubt in the Crotalus's mind when she saw the notice. Immediately, she'd stopped, pulled out her writing materials, and put down the necessary information.

Satisfied with what she'd put down, Lila put her materials back in her bookbag and continued on her way.\n\n

Eleven years of watching Quidditch, of reading magazines, of building his own model brooms. Eleven years of being told he wasn't allowed to fly by his mother. And, of course, his visit the the Quidditch shop just before he started school with his father. If it hadn't been mandatory for first years, Geoff still might have decided against putting his name on the list. After all, he might know a lot, but his mother's voice still continued to twitter poisonously in his mind.

Geoffrey Spindler, Crotalus, First Year

he wrote carefully on the list. Perhaps if he talked to Father about all this flying business before his mother found out... assuming he didn't end up in the infirmary with an owl fluttering on it's merry way to deliver the news itself before he could do anything about it.

Going away to school had seemed like a good thing. But, even when he as miles and miles away, his mother still seemed to have her claws firmly into him.\n\n

Adam Brockert

Adam froze at the sight of the notice. He'd been expecting flying lessons to occur of course, but he'd pushed it out of his mind. Pretended it wasn't occuring. Hoping it would go away if he didn't think about it. In fact, with the disappointment over not being in Teppenpaw, Adam had forgotten about it.

He didn't want to fly. Adam happened to be deathly afraid of flying. There was something about hovering in the air on a very small piece of wood that just didn't particularily appeal to him. I'll fall, Adam thought. If I get on a broom, I'll fall and crack my head open and die.

He didn't even think there was a point to taking flying lessons. He simply didn't need to. Adam could always just use portkeys and floo powder and eventually learn to apparate. Flying was completely and totally unnecessary. He certainly didn't play Quidditch.

The notice even said "For those who wanted to learn how to fly." Adam didn't want to learn how to fly. Unfortunately, he knew the lessons were mandatory for first years, so he placed his name on the sheet....in incredibly tiny letters, much smaller than his normal handwriting.

Adam Brockert, Crotalus, First year.

Maybe something would happen. Maybe Adam would get the flu or dragon pox or something. Maybe the weather would go bad again. Anything so he didn't have to fly.

Lila St.Martin

Never, in eleven years of living, could Lila recall a time she had actually wanted to learn how to fly. There was something indelicate about it, and she seriously doubted she would ever really need the skill. Being rich had its perks, and one of them was more seemly means of transporting herself from one point to another. Therefore, flight class should have been a completely voluntary one, for boys and weirdos like a certain few of her cousins. She doubted even Allie would go out for this willingly, though that might have been more fear of heights than the principle of the thing.

However, she didn't have a choice. This was something that all first years had to do, like it or not. When she thought of it like that, as something she was being forced to lower herself to doing, it became a little easier, at least on a mental level, to do. She was not the one in the wrong here. The ones in the wrong were Amy Fox and possibly her superiors. Yes, that did make it easier. A little easier.

That still didn't keep her from grimacing horribly as she rummaged out a quill and, charms on her bracelet jingling together as if in protest, wrote down the required information about herself. This really was not proper. This was not something she wanted to do. It had better be a short lesson...
