Nervous as usual... by Adam Brockert

Adam opened his eyes to find himself in unfamiliar surroundings. The room was decorated in red and silver. His room was blue. Suddenly it came flooding back to him. Adam was at Sonora. In Crotalus. Not Teppenpaw. Not where Kaylie could protect him.

He'd gone to bed the night before, hardly speaking to his roommate. Adam was still quite intimidated by the other boy. Not for any particular reason, other than he was another human being who Adam didn't know. Besides, he was sure the other boy was thinking the absolute worst about him.

He rubbed his eyes. Adam had had lots of difficulties sleeping the night before. He was worried about the day ahead. Worried about facing his housemates and classmates. Kaylie could eat with him but she couldn't come in here, he couldn't go into Teppenpaw (unfortunately) and they wouldn't have classes together.

Adam crept cautiously out of bed. His leg brushed up against something furry and he exclaimed "Oh!" He looked down to see his puffskien, Peanut, on the floor eating a bit of paper. Adam sighed to himself, his heart still racing a bit.

He walked down the stairs and peered nervously out into the room. Suddenly, Adam heard someone approaching. He began to shake. \n\n

Sleeping in a chair isn't the most comfortable thing by Tiponi Grisandole

Despite the fact that she was wearing a set of white pajamas, Tiponi hadn’t actually slept in her room the night before. She’d curled up with a blanket and pillow in one of the chairs in the common room after everyone else retired, her seat as vibrantly red as the rest of the décor, and tried her best not to fall asleep. She succeeded for about an hour but when the stillness of the room and her exhaustion caught up with her, she succumbed to a night of troubled dreams and a harsh, abrupt wakening.

It was in her favor that the cry she let loose hadn’t been heard by the rest of the house. That was the reason she hadn’t slept in the room with the other girls to begin with. She didn’t know any of them yet and hadn’t wanted to be the one responsible for rousing them from sleep in the middle of the night with a yell.

She’d gotten about six hours of sleep before being rudely awakened, which was actually a decent amount for her. The combination of physical and emotional fatigue had kept her under for longer than she might normally have been. As a result, of course, she was forced to endure a longer dream. The trade-off wasn’t an even one, in her opinion.

Yawning and trying to bring a semblance of order to her tousled black hair, she figured she wasn’t going to be able to sit still for much longer without dozing off again and so got up. It was late enough to go and get her toiletries from the room, she supposed. In walking towards the hallway that split the dormitories by gender, she paused when a head peeked around the corner. Looking at her, the young boy saw an exhausted girl about his age with dark bruises under her eyes and a blanket and pillow clutched firmly in her arms.

"Hello...?" she querried hesitantly, not recognizing him from the night before. She wouldn't be likely to recognize anyone but Geoffrey at this point, who she'd actually gotten a chance to say more than two words to the night before.\n\n

Perhaps you should have tried a couch? by Adam B.

Adam turned to face a girl with black hair who looked as tired as he felt. He'd only had about four hours of fretful sleep the previous night and had actually woken up quite a few times within that time period. He had to admit she didn't look all that threatening but still that didn't calm the intense pounding in his heart. Appearances could be very deceiving. Take spiders for example. They were tiny, nowhere near the size of a human being, yet sometimes they contained enough venom to kill one.

He was about to move on when the girl spoke to him .

"H-hi," Adam replied nervously. He looked down at the ground. He was sure she was judging him. His pale skin, his slight frame...the fact that he was trembling.\n\n
