An Owl for Liliana Bannister by Stan

The beginning of the term was always the busiest for Stan. There were several owls to be delivered on campus, and then the dreaded trip back and forth from the humid state where his owner was from. He much preferred the dryer weather and calmer atmosphere here.

The small owl ruffled his feathers and took off for his first delivery while the students were still arriving in wagons. He dropped the first letter addressed to Miss Liliana Bannister off on her desk before swooping out the window again to the next house. Inside, the sealed letter read:

Captain Liliana Bannister,

Congratulations on your promotion to Quidditch Captain! This year you will be responsible for putting up sign-up sheets, holding tryouts, reserving the pitch for your team, and hosting practices throughout the year. You will need to decide whom your Assistant Captain will be. I would recommend Joella Curtis.

It had been a very difficult decision whether to recommend Jiwon or Joella, but in Florence's opinion she could see the team excelling under Joella's leadership as opposed to Jiwon's.

If you would rather another assist you or do not feel that you can perform these duties as captain, please owl me so I can make the proper arrangements before the season begins. You may tell your assistant of choice of his or her promotion yourself. Congratulations and best wishes.

Coach Florence Olivers

All board the Quidditch-ship [tag: Joella, girl's dorms by Liliana Bannister

Liliana stared at her new Quidditch Captain badge with a mix of horror and honor. She would have been lying if she said she hadn’t expected it. She had been waiting for that day ever since she joined the team. Though it wasn’t something she had ever voiced to anyone, but Quidditch Captain was one of the things she desired most in life. The prefecture had been a surprise, she’d thought Atlas who lead the baking club might have been the one to get the prefect badge. Certainly he seemed to be more responsible than she, and she’d gotten the Assistant Captain position that same year—which, in Aladren House at least, had been spread out between Theodore and Leonidas.

Once she got over the initial excitement, she dreaded having to tell her family about it. The cousins would be proud of her for sure, and she knew her parents were too busy to fully read the letter—her father might send her a card purchased and signed by his secretary as if Liliana couldn’t tell the difference in the handwriting, and her mom might send her some flowers thinking, in her sleep deprived state, that it was some sort of academic role versus the sport she wasn’t supposed to be playing anymore. But Grandmère…Grandmère would be furious not only that Liliana hadn’t stopped but also that she was being rewarded for it.

Liliana immediately decided not to write home about her promotion just yet, she wanted to enjoy the position without all the baggage and at the very least let Joella know she was being picked as an Assistant Captain sans the drama. She carefully put the letter that had been addressed to her and put it back in the envelope and put the envelope in one of the desk drawers she never used. Time to go give Joella the good news.

She raced down the hall to where she knew the fouth year girls stayed, rapping on the door rather loudly. Either Joella would open the door or she hadn’t gotten back from the feast yet. Either way Liliana was going to wait outside the door until her new Assistant Captain was right in front of her so she could tell her the good news. And then, then they would have to go to the art room and make a really awesome sign to post before they went to bed because sign-ups had to go on the bulletin board as soon as possible. She couldn’t wait for Quidditch to start!

“Joella!” Liliana exclaimed when she saw the younger girl at long last, her shout loud enough that she was sure people could hear her down the hall in the common room and possibly in the boys dorms too. “Be my assistant captain for the rest of my Sonora Quidditch career?”

Girl power for the win! by Joella Curtis

Joella had returned from the Opening Feast and was staring at her luggage, wondering why she hadn’t got on with the unpacking during her free time earlier. She was about to ask her roommates whether or not they knew any spells that could do it all for her and make sure everything ended up in the right place, when there was a knock on the door.

She bounded over to the dormitory door, happy to be distracted from the tedious chore of sorting her things even if it would only be for a moment. Opening the door to find Liliana Bannister standing just outside was a pleasant surprise in itself but the words that came out of her teammate’s mouth were even more so.

“Assistant Captain?” Joella’s eyes grew wide. This was completely unanticipated but also completely wonderful. “You’ve got to be kidding?” It didn’t take a genius to figure out that the fourth year was both shocked and immensely thrilled at the offer to be the new Pecari Captain’s right hand woman, given the broad grin she couldn’t remove from her freckled face.

She reached forward and grabbed the older girl into a very enthusiastic hug, in her elation not stopping to consider the fact that whilst they may both be awesome female Quidditch playing rebels, she and Liliana were still supposed to be proper pureblood ladies. Not that Joella had ever been told respectable young ladies couldn’t embrace, only she was not being very graceful about it and nor was she allowing Liliana much room to be graceful either.

“I'd love to! Thank you so much,” she gushed. “This is going to be such an exciting year!”

Joella knew that working alongside Liliana was going to be super fun and she hoped as she did every year that this time Pecari would thrash the pants off Aladren.
