Pecari First Years Continued by Professor O'Leary

From the Hall, Drake led them outside the door and towards the Labyrinth Gardens. He had to remind himself to slow down from his normally brisk stride. Otherwise, most of the first years would have been running to keep up. To help set a more leisurely pace, he took an uncharacteristic approach to pointing out various things along the way, such as a few of the ways to get to the classrooms that were in close proximity. He knew how easy it was to get lost when everything was so new. Even he had gotten lost a few times when he had first arrived to teach at the school that had since become a second home. A few steps into the Labyrinth Gardens, he reached the suit of armor that was the entrance to Pecari, which would become home to the first years for the next seven years.

With a sweep of the robes to turn and face the students, before he continued on with pertinent information, “Each House has its own entrance, which is a secret to anyone not in the House, and if you do tell anyone and I find out, I assure you, there will be dire consequences. You are also not to ask anyone else about theirs.” He allowed one of his more stern gazes (he had plenty of them) to rest on the students a moment plainly showing that they should not test him on this matter. “In order to enter, you simply need to recite the current password. The password changed often, so be sure to frequently check the board in the Common room to find out what the new one is.”

A statement of the current password, Pumpkin Pasties, and Drake was leading them into inside. “Have a seat,” he stated with a gesture towards the assortment of couches and chairs gathered around one side of the room. “For the next seven years, this will, for all intents, be your home. The boys’ rooms are up the stairway to the left and the girls’ rooms are to the right. Before any of you even get it in your head to try going down the wrong hallway, there are charms that make it impossible.” As a father with a daughter in one of the other Houses, he was more than pleased with this fact among others. “Curfew is at ten o’clock every night. At which time, while you do not have to be in your dorm room, you must at least be in the Common room. Beyond that, you may roam the school at will. If you need anything, you can either ask me or Connor Pierce, Saul Pierce, or Elly Eriksson, the Pecari prefects.”

“As mentioned earlier, the password will change often. Over there,” he motioned towards the bulletin board by the door, “is where the new one will be posted along with any other information like clubs or quidditch. First years are not allowed to play on the House teams; however, there are other activities to look forward to. As Headmaster Bulla mentioned at the Feast, in the past, there’s been Soccer Scrimmages, Charms Club, Novelling Fury, and more recently, the Aronos, the school newspaper, which you can join.” He went over the mental list in his head wanting to make sure that he had mentioned everything that needed to be mentioned, which he believed he had. “I think that’s everything. Are there any questions or comments? If not and you think of any later, my office is right through that door.”
