Panic in the Editorial Lounge [Boy's Dorm] by Brett Hodges

This dumb paper was consuming all of Brett's time. So. Much. Work. He barely remembered the last time he'd gotten a decent conversation with Irene... it must have been before Christmas. There wasn't a quiet place in the school anymore because there wasn't a not-stressed out stem-cell in his whole crazy brain. Running wasn't even helping anymore. Flinging his sweaty ankle socks in the general direction of the hamper, Brett continued to shed smelly clothing as appropriate until he was standing under the shower head in the boy's showers. The water ran down his back.

He marched back to the dorm a cleaner, slightly more dignified person, gathering up any stray clothing he'd lost track of on the way in and dumping it into the hamper. Echo was waiting for him, scratching his cat's stomach.

"So, think of a topic yet?" Echo asked. Brett grunted. Could there be a more annoying question on the planet? The deadline for the editorial was Saturday, and it was only the most important thing he had ever written in his life. The entire school would be reading it and everyone would think of it every time they thought of him for the next month, at least. You couldn't just choose a topic, it had to be the right one.

"That's a no," his best friend deduced.

Brett said, "It's not time to worry yet."

"That's why you walked down the hall naked?"

"What?!!!" Brett yelped.

Echo dissolved into laughter. "Gotcha! The look on your face... oh, come on. It was funny. Ha ha?"

"Yeah, ha, ha. I get it," Brett sat back on his bed and took out his list and stared at it. Wasn't there something else he wanted to add to the list earlier? Echo brought the cat over and she wanted to taste it. Brett scratched his head. It wasn't because he was thinking. It itched because the water was dripping and drying weirdly.

Possible Topics
- Muggleborns: Choosing Between Worlds
- Muggle sports in Wizarding Schools
- Quidditch: DISCUSS and WAIL
- Does Quidditch undermine school pride?
- Music at Sonora
- Squib Rights

"Why don't you just do the first one," Echo asked, looking over his shoulder, "Isn't that like your big thing?"

"Yeah," Brett agreed guardedly, "but I don't want to come across as just a big whiner or a crazy weirdo, you know? What if it's not the right article? And, anyway, it's not a thing where kids here can do a lot, you know? But then, I don't want to do something like, let's all be nice to each other, either. And I'm representing to paper. I don't want the purebloods to be turned off by it, right? I want to get people thinking, talking, and then DOING. The quidditch thing, with the girls becoming gay--"

"--total crap," Echo asserted.

"Yeah, but we've got a DISCUSS article and I don't want to step on toes."

"You're the editor. Step on whoever's toes you want."

"I guess. But I don't know if that's the right one. It's gotta be right, you know?"

"If you want to be Zen guy," Echo advised, "stop stressing out about it."

"I'm not stressing. Who's stressed?"

Echo rolled his eyes.

- two flying paper cranes - by Elly Eriksson

Following Irene and Elly's conversation regarding how busy everyone seemed to be these days, the girls had decided on a small picnic out in the gardens. Elly had eventually decided not to invite Meredith and Caedence. After all, the idea had partly been Irene's, and Elly didn't want to take over the event by inviting a whole crowd of friends. Irene was just asking Brett to come along, so it was better for Elly to just invite Echo, seeing how he and Brett had always been good friends.

Courtesy of her third year prank, but reinforced by the charms club, two paper cranes can been carefully folded from some coloured paper some other student had foolishly left lying around in the common room. They had been sent separately to the recipients, each bearing an identical message (aside from the name of the addressee):

We've all been too busy lately. Take some time out. Come meet us in the gardens for a picnic (prairie elves will provide all). Irene and Elly xxx

The animated origami birds flew to the boys' dormitory and each hovered around the head of its human destination until plcuked out of the air.
