... tired by Derek Samonns

Derek ran a hand through his hair lightly, yawning slightly. He was becoming less of a study freak, but now it seemed that everyone had already made their friends known. That Nathalie girl he hadn't seen around lately, he had hoped maybe she would be something like a friend to him. Or maybe his roommate, that Jae kid seemed cool. But whatever, he supposed he had next year, right? Maybe the new first years had a nice bunch to them? Derek wasn't sure. But he was hopeful.

Derek never liked being alone. Back home he had a few Muggle friends and fewer Wizard ones. Mainly his paternal cousins were that group, being mostly the only magical people he knew. Derek never made many friends, even though he wasn't a very shy person and was fairly happy. But Derek was easily distracted making it hard for him to keep lasting friendships.

Still, here Derek sat in his common room. The same common room his father belonged to. Of course his father actually was able to make friends. Derek yawned, and looked around. What was with these schools? They only had Quidditch to play. What if one didn't like Quidditch? Then what were they to do? Sit there bored and do studies? This place needed a party, a party and much more activities. They had to see that not everyone was split up between reading, studying, and playing Quidditch.

One of his Muggle friends had an older brother who went to a boarding school. They had many different activities for different people. A boy in his house was doing a novelling club. That was better, Derek supposed. But once again, this place still needed more. There had to be more wizarding sports they could play, his uncle liked Quadpot. Though that was a little more dangerous than Quidditch. They should also have choirs, some girl tried to start a band. Hm... student council? Though prefects probably counted as that. Hm... maybe Derek could start something.

But what could he start? Derek frowned. What did he want to start? Volleyball, Derek loved volleyball. Maybe he could make up his own sport using volleyball, since he was pretty sure not many here would play volleyball with simply the Muggle rules. Derek turned looking for someone. Maybe someone he knew? Not many people. There were many things he could use. Volleyball, tennis, badmitton... anything with a net and a ball Derek enjoyed. Track even? Racing on the brooms!

Derek was smiling. This place did need more activities too. Maybe a newspaper, they did have a yearbook why not a newspaper? Art club? Photography? How great. Derek was bursting.

How about soccer? by Brett Hodges

It's a sad world where the only thing dirty about it is the dust, Brett thought, picking up his soccer ball and halfheartedly attempting to spin it on his pointer. The ball should be covered in black streaks and grass stains by now; he'd had it since, what, August? It was high time to fix that, even if it was just him running laps with it and juggling in the gardens. Brett dropped the ball on his knee, popped it up and tucked it between elbow and hip, letting his arm flop a little as he pushed his feet into already tied sneakers.

He headed down to the common room and saw Derek hanging around -- he'd kinda been hoping for Agent Iris. Derek wasn't really a friend, maybe because the kid spent so much time with the books, but they'd talked a couple times and he seemed cool. He was an okay roommate anyway. Low key. He was smiling now; Brett wasn't sure what at.

"Yo, Derek! Wanna play?" Brett asked, pretty sure Derek had enough muggle in him to know what a soccer ball was for. \r\n\r\n

I'm more a volleyball kid by Derek

"Yo, Derek! Wanna play?"

Derek, still bursting happy from his thoughts, heard one of his housemates calling to him. Play? Play what? Oh, certainly not Quidditch. Derek didn't like Quidditch much. He turned to see that Brett kid, pretty much his only roommate that he'd said more than "hello" and "goodnight" to. He supposed they were aquaintences... or such.

And the ball he was holding had nothing to do with Quidditch, thank Mer. It was an ordinary, household, soccer ball. Derek grinned. Okay, it was a game played with a net, but not exactly what he wanted. Still, it was almost like his prayers of new activities were being answered. At least it was a ball and a net (two nets technically, but Derek didn't care much). Hopefully Brett didn't just want to play Quidditch with that soccer ball. But from what he knew, Brett grew up in a Muggle environment.

So why would he use a soccer ball for Quidditch? Exactly. Derek stood up. "Sure," he grinned. "You almost read my mind there, you know. I was wondering why this place can't give us any Muggle sports." Derek walked over to Brett. "Anyone else playing?" It would be pretty awkward playing pass just two on two.

HEY, WHO WANTS TO PLAY SOCCER? [tag: everyone!] by Brett Hodges

"Sure," he grinned. "You almost read my mind there, you know. I was wondering why this place can't give us any Muggle sports."

"Dude, yeah!" Brett said, "That's what I'm talking about!"

It was about time someone else noticed this lack of muggleness. Like, sure, get rid of the lightswitches, but, come on: why forget the sports? And what about video games and movies? Where was the magic equivalent? And Monopoly. Or Balderdash. Doesn't anyone play Balderdash around here? Or what about card games, like Spit, BS, and Rummy? This stuff was golden. Brett would even settle for crocket at this point.

"Anyone else playing?" Derek asked. Now there was a question.

"Not yet, but I'm sure we can fix that," Brett leaned back and shouted, Elly-style, "HEY! WHO WANTS TO PLAY SOCCER?!"

I'm in. by Echo Elms

Following the First Quarter of the cycle is the Waxing Gibbous. It takes place on the tenth day of the cycle. The word "waxing" means that the moon is getting bigger, which means that more of ut is becoming lit. The moon actually stays the same size through the whole cycle--

"HEY, WHO WANTS TO PLAY SOCCER?"

Echo looked up from his Astronomy essay, which had been moving along pretty quickly even though he didn't really know anything about the Waxing Gibbous yet. But he heard the word soccer so that was it. Study time was over for now. He added a couple more words to finish up the sentence and ran downstairs, shoes in hand. He was not going to miss this.

"I'm in," he said, not at all surprised to see Brett standing there, the proud owner of the lungs that pulled Echo away from his essay. He sat down on the stair to get his sneakers on and tie them up. The other kid was Derek, one of Brett's roommates, and that was about all Echo knew about him.

Shoes on, he joined the pair in the middle of the common room. Hopefully more people would join up.

*waves hand in the air* by Irene Liddowe

Irene sat on the couch, not knowing what to do with the rest of her day. She'd already written to Raye and Josh, finished her homework, and all things that one might consider doing in their spare time. So... bored... Someone save me! She thought, brushing some of her brown hair away from her sea colored eyes.

"HEY! WHO WANTS TO PLAY SOCCER?!"

Irene perked up and looked around. Excitement? Yes! Irene jumped up from the couch, looking around for whoever had shouted, though she was pretty sure she had a good idea...

Yep. Brett was standing with another boy and Echo. Soccer sounds fun! She had played when she was younger back in the day. She was four. From what her mother had told her (when she was five) she was a stellar player!

Just don't fall on your face, she coached herself. Last thing you need is to make a fool of yourself in a group of boys. Oh, yay (please note the sarcasm).

Irene walked over to Brett, Echo, and the other boy (whose name she didn't know), her hand in the air.

"Me! I hope you'll forgive the whole Hey-I-haven't-played-in-seven-years thing..." She added with a sheepish smile.

Yay, four! by Derek

Derek was a little surprised when Brett ended up screaming it through the common room, but he smiled all the same. Oo, much fun. Though he'd still prefer volleyball... eh he'd get used to it. Next year he could bring his volleyball, and maybe a net too. That would be fun. "Nice voice," Derek whistled.

Echo, a kid a year older than him, came to join. As well as a girl coming up, Irene, who was in his year. She was friends with the girl he'd met in the Courts so long ago. Or at least they'd been roommates. Derek flew a hand through his hair with a smile. Great, four people.

"Me! I hope you'll forgive the whole Hey-I-haven't-played-in-seven-years thing..."

"That's okay, I've really only played once," Derek laughed. "So we have four people, cool. Anyone else?" His voice wasn't as loud as Brett's, but it was good enough for people to at least hear what he was saying. "Where should we play? The Pitch or the Labyrinth?"

Elly Eriksson

and more by Elly Eriksson

Charms homework. In a word: Blah. What good was the history and theory if you couldn’t do the spell to save your life? Still, she wasn’t going to get good grades based on her spellwork so Elly had to at least finish the essay – even if it was half-heartedly – if she wanted to pass the class.

That was why Brett’s rallying call was as equally welcome as not. A bit of running around sounded positively fantastic right now. On the other hand, there was a whole load of homework still waiting to be done, as well as a million other things on Elly’s ever-growing to-do list, and playing football certainly wasn’t going to get it done.

Undecided, Elly wrote a couple more lines of her essay. She re-read them and crossed them back out, considering just giving it up as a lost cause. She glanced up to the other side of the common room again, to see that Echo and Irene had now joined Brett and the other first year (Elly didn’t know him) for the game. Well, that pretty much decided it. Football (or soccer, as they called it over here) wasn’t hockey, but it was a hundred times better than charms homework.

Slamming her book, Elly yelled, “I’ll play!” She was quite well dressed for running about anyway, in her white trainers and denim cut-off shorts (which had fit a while ago but were now almost too short) and an orange vest-top, almost the same colour as her hair. She headed over to the others.

“There’s a nice spot in the gardens with a couple of bushes practically crying out to be goalposts,” she grinned, having noticed the area before and considered how she could set up a hockey game. “Last one there’s a loser!” She grabbed Echo’s sleeve in one hand, Irene’s in the other, and started to drag them towards the commons exit.

OOC: I just felt that as there’s a Quidditch game on it might be better to post in the gardens on this occasion – though feel free to contradict me if you want!

Here we go! by Irene

Irene waved to Elly as she heard her “I’ll play!”

“There’s a nice spot in the gardens with a couple of bushes practically crying out to be goalposts,”

"All right! Sounds good to me!" Irene said, excited for the start of this game. She hoped she do too horribly. Raye always told her to be spontaneous, though. That usually worked out for her too...

“Last one there’s a loser!” Elly shouted from beside her. Elly had grabbed Irene's sleeve and was beginning to drag Echo and herself to the gardens. Laughing, Irene turned and grabbed Brett's sleeve, dragging him along with them.

OOC: Gardens sounds good! Sould I just post the "Kick-off" there?
