A Request for Angel Shield by School Owl

The large Barn Owl hooted softly from his perch on the bed of Angel Shield. He waited for the letter to be untied from his leg by the recipient of it. He was used to these sorts of trips. Never off school grounds and always to the students. He was getting old in his days, but he was still glad to be of some use.

The letter read:

Dear Mr. Shield,

I am requesting your presence in my office tomorrow morning after breakfast at nine am to discuss your lessons at Sonora. My office is at the end of the Hall of Plants. I'll leave my door open.

I look forward to meeting you.

Sincerely,
Headmistress Kijewski

Angel Shield

... by Angel Shield

Delicate droplets of water clung to his ashen locks as Angel returned to his room, his skin still warm from the shower he’d just finished. A soft hoot distracted him from drying his hair and his eyes snapped up to see an owl perched on his bed. The towel slipped from his fingers to land in a small heap on the floor as Angel padded silently over to the bed.

Pale fingertips gently untied the letter, and hesitantly reached out to brush lightly though the bird’s chest feathers in apology for the lack of treats. Once the letter was free, and the itching accepted the old owl took flight, leaving Angel with the letter.

Sitting cross-legged on the bed Angel opened it. Ruby colored eyes marched slowly over the words, as pale pink lips silently shaped them, painstakingly sounding out each one. Some of the words, requesting, presence, discuss, caused the young albino to stumble as he tried to decipher the message. But, he was able to figure out that someone wished to see him in the morning at the end of the hall of plants.

Why? Angel wondered as he made his way through the letter again. Why me? He wasn’t sure what he’d done to be singled out, and felt anxious at the attention.
