An Owl for Kirstenna by Boomer

Boomer was a large eagle owl, and one of the most impressive birds living at Sonora, if he did say so himself. Heads turned when he flew into a room (especially if he hooted when he did so) and he was the only owl regularly on the premises owned by a pureblood matriarch, as was only proper for an impressive specimen such as himself. A Pierce matriarch could hardly be expected to own a lesser bird. He, though, was a fine bird of prey, and entirely appropriate for Coach Amelia Pierce, Head of Crotalus, and Matriach of the Boston Pierces.

Today, he carried for her a single letter, addressed to Kirstenna Melcher, and he delivered it with pomp and circumstance and a loud whooo! right over her head before he dropped down in front of the girl and held out the leg with his mistress's letter attached to it. His talons were freshly shined, and she'd get a good look at them when she detatched the envelope. He was very proud of his buffed talons. Most owls did not have such thoughtful mistresses.

The outside of the letter had the coach's handwriting upon it, reading clearly Kirstenna Melcher, Teppenpaw Commons. The inside was written in the same hand. It had been kept short and simple.

Assistant Captain Kirstenna Melcher,

Please come to my office at your earliest convenience. I wish to discuss a matter of some import with you.

Sincerely,
Coach Amelia Pierce

*freaks out* by Kirstenna Melcher

Kirstenna was sitting on a couch in the Teppenpaw common rooms thinking about the very disturbing gossip she had heard recently, her distant cousin Seth was dating the Beetle Lady!

How could he? The third year was very worried about this. What if the Beetle Lady was on to her and was using Seth-er, Mr. Brockert, Kirstenna was never quite sure what to call him as he was her cousin, but a distant one whom she'd never spoken to that was the groundskeeper here, and therefore a faculty member-to find out what Kirstenna was up to? Or was he a willing accomplice in the beetle thing? Maybe he was supposed to catch students to be taken to her so she could turn them into beetles. Did that make anyone he was related to immune to beetle-dom?

Nah, Mr. Brockert didn't even probably realize Kirstenna was related to him. Or who she was.

Unless the Beetle Lady was on to her and had told the groundskeeper about the third year. What if he was another staff member Kirstenna and everyone else had to be wary of? Was he an accomplice or a potential victim? Should Kirstenna warn him?

An owl flew overhead then and dropped a letter in front of Kirstenna. An unfamiliar but impressive owl. Must have been from some powerful pureblood. Maybe it was from her grandparents? No, they'd never contact her, that would be a silly thing to think. Highly inprobably. If there was any sort of important family news, they'd contact Quentin and he would feel compelled to tell her.

After giving the regal owl a treat, the Teppenpaw reached for the letter and opened it. When Kirstenna saw what it said and who it was from her eyes grew round as saucers. The Impostor wanted to Kirstenna to meet her in her office . Eeek!

What was she going to do to the third year? Maybe she knew that Kirstenna was on to her and she was going to dispose of Kirstenna like she had Brian. Maybe The Impostor was going to kidnap her and send her to the same hotel room in Gallup, New Mexico as her friend. She wondered if he was still alive or a corpse rotting under the floor boards.

Should Kirstenna go? And if she did, should she go alone ? It would be a stupid unsafe thing to do, but Kirstenna didn't want to get anyone else hurt either.
