Studying by Autumn Collins

The first week at Sonora found Autumn in the library studying for Transfiguration. She was pretty decent at the practical part and really, not bad at the theoretical but it was a difficult subject in general. She needed to have top grades and be if not the best in her class, be near the top. Autumn would accept nothing but the best from herself.

If she couldn't be outgoing and popular, she could at least be smart and artistic. Autumn didn't think anyone else in her class painted as seriously as she did. Being artistic was a major part of her identity, and given that she was a pureblood woman, she would probably be able to spend a lot of time doing it rather than having a realistic career. Aside from Lily, Autumn didn't know any women who had careers. Still, right at this second, the fourth year was more concerned with studying.

After all, CATS were coming up next year, and Autumn wanted perfect scores. That meant she would have to study like crazy this year and next year too. The Crotalus wanted to be prefect as well but she doubted it would happen. She was too shy. Autumn didn't quite think that was fair, it wasn't as if she were mean to people, and she was sure that she was getting better grades than Sam and Nic. Not that she rejoiced in their lower grades, but at least it meant Autumn had something going for her.

Of course, she wasn't sure she would like what went along with being prefect. Autumn was terrible at socializing but it wasn't as if she was incapable of helping younger students and she needed...something. Something to make her feel good about herself. Autumn just wasn't good with large groups or meeting brand new people.

Unfortunately, both Lily and Adam had told her that was everything at Sonora. Not that they agreed with it. In fact, Adam was seriously bitter about it and everything else that had happened to him at Sonora. Even the one good thing that had happened-dating Talitha-was now over, though Adam was keeping in touch with a girl he'd met at SUM last year. Incidentally, Autumn's second cousin was quite supportive of her goals. They had a lot in common and Adam seemed to want to see Autumn succeed for the both of them but she didn't think he would be mad at her if she didn't.

Still, it was important for the fourth year to do well anyway. For herself as well. Therefore, Autumn was sitting in the library with a stack of text books. In a matter of moments, she was deeply engrossed.

So much so that she didn't notice when someone sat down across the table from her.

Point me in the right direction by Erica Ricketts

When Erica entered the library, the was shocked at how vast it was. Books lined ever spare wall, and tables and plush chairs filled the room up. This was nothing like her old school, where a few books in a room with a computer was called the library. Curiously gazing around, she set off for the transfiguration section, which had to be around here somewhere. Her eyes scanned the shelves, and she had a hard time understanding the titles of the books. Magical terms filled the pages, lots of ones Erica didn't understand, for she was a muggleborn.

Being the stubborn Pecari she was, she refused to ask for help. She could do this on her own! Erica started to get weary, her eyes hurting. The glasses she had refused to wear since second grade still lat at the bottom of her bag, un-used. Taking a seat at the nearest table, she looked up to find an older girl looking at her. Holding out a hand, Erica proclaimed, "Hello! I am Erica Ricketts of Pecari, first year. And you...?"

What direction do you want to go in? by Autumn

Autumn blinked, surprised to see a younger unfamiliar student there, probably one of the first years. When she had been eleven there had been no way the Crotalus would have sat down at the table with somebody she didn't know, especially an older student that was studying. In fact, Autumn still wouldn't do that. She found the older students in her house completely intimidating (though she supposed Jethro and Marissa weren't too bad), and some of the others as well.

This girl was apparently a lot more bold than Autumn had been. Probably more so than she was now too, as the fourth year was still pretty much as shy as she had been three years ago. The only difference was now, Autumn had made a few friends and that had made things a bit easier. Still, she was more comfortable with Jane and Samantha then with the general population of Sonora.

However, this girl was just a first year so she wasn't especially threatening to Autumn. Even if the girl's boldness was just a wee bit intimidating, she was still younger than the Crotalus. Autumn was not going to be too nervous about her. She refused to be.

"Hello! I am Erica Ricketts of Pecari, first year. And you...?" .

"Autumn Collins, fourth year Crotalus." She replied, shaking Erica's offered hand. At least her being in Pecari explained her bravery and forwardness. And she seemed friendly enough, like Nina, not like the ones Adam had gone to school with. "Do you need help with anything?" Autumn asked.

That was what a prefect was supposed to do. Help younger students, and Autumn wanted to show everyone she was capable of doing so.
