Help! I've fallen and can't get up!! by Dorian Talsky

Dorian walked into towards the library and sighed, he had never stepped foot in here before today and it made him nervous. He knew students were now working closely with the librarian so he figured they would be extra strict about making noise. Dorian couldn’t stand silence Mum never let there be silence in the house, even in their large library at home classical music was played softly in the background. When there was silence Dorian liked to whistle or hum and he was nervous he might be thrown out of the library due to the noise.

With the slip of paper clutched in his hand he entered the silent room. The library was massive compared their large one at home. He sighed and hated that Papa had given him extra work to do. Since Dorian had been raised in his Mum’s English Manor instead of his Father’s Russian Palace like Dmitry had he was being forced to find books on his ancestral land. He sighed as he made his way into the back of the library where the International books were kept. It looked like a forgotten corner of the library. Did people not read about other countries? He began to scour the shelves for the book he needed.

It only took moments but he found the book, unfortunately it was a shelf that he couldn’t reach. He began to jump up and down trying to get it. There were no ladders in this abandoned area. He sighed and shook his head. Taking a risk he stepped up onto the shelf, it felt sturdy so he brought his second foot up, now all his weight was on the shelf he went to move his right foot and set it on the second shelf. Once again it felt sturdy, so he brought his left foot up and all his weight was now on the ancient wood. He began to reach up for the book when there was a loud crack!

“Oh no!” Dorian cried as his feet began to search for something to hold on his weight while he held onto the shelf above him but his fingers were slipping and he was going to fall. He scrambled about trying to get down safely what he didn’t notice that the whole book case was moving with his every move. Slowly it began to fall backwards. He cried out as it felt back with him firmly attached. It landed firmly atop of him and he sighed. “Great Dorian, look what you did!” He snapped to himself, he was sure someone would come and find him soon….Right?

Well, you kind of deserve it! by Natalie Simms

The red-headed librarian was doing her rounds as per usual. She liked the silence that reigned in the Library, it was so inviting that it made her almost stop working, grab a book and immerse herself in it. But of course, she would never forgo her work…she could read another time. On another note, she could make the kiddies do her work…bad Natalie, they are here to help you not do your work she thought to herself. She chuckled.

Books were flying to their places and Natalie felt very accomplished about it. Out of the corner of her eye she had seen a young boy make his way towards the International section of the Library. She smiled. She loved when younglings wanted to learn something apart from their regular courses. She quietly hummed to herself and walked towards her desk in the middle of the Library, she was done for now. Plus, she still needed to figure out the schedules for the lucky students that would be working with her.

She sat down and grabbed the unfinished schedule, when BAM, she heard quite a ruckus in her Library. She frowned; this was a Library for Merlin’s sake! She got up quite angry and directed herself to the source of all the noise. She couldn’t believe what she was seeing. Her precious bookcase was on top of a student and all the beautiful books were scattered about. She gasped, “Sweet Merlin child! What in the name of Morgana happened here?” Natalie couldn’t help being angry, for one, she was sure the incident had been caused by the boy trying to climb it…seriously, he was a wizard, he could’ve summoned it or asked for her help.

She flicked her wand, in seconds the bookcase with all of the books was in their rightful place. “Are you all right? Because if you are not I have to take you to the Infirmary,” she offered her hand to help him up, “What were you thinking?” Natalie scolded the unruly child, she couldn't help being angry and annoyed at the kid.

I'm sorry? by Dorian

“Sweet Merlin child! What in the name of Morgana happened here?” Dorian heard the Librarian Miss Simms cried. It had to be her didn’t it? The bookcase was off of him in a moment and everything was back into place quickly. He was about to apologized when she continued. “Are you all right? Because if you are not I have to take you to the Infirmary. What were you thinking?” He grabbed her hand and was hoisted to his feet.

He looked up the young Librarian and then down at his feet tears starting to form in his mind. He hadn’t meant to make the whole bookcase fall. “I’m sorry ma’am.” He said in his crisp English accent. Tears began to roll down his face. “There was no stool or ladder to climb up on and my Papa was making me get a book about his homeland.” He looked up and saw the red book back on the high shelf. “Please don’t write to him about this it I didn’t mean to harm anything.” He was terrified of his father the man was hard on him.

He looked up at her and wiped his tears away. “I am very sorry.” He said again.

You should! by Natalie Simms

Natalie helped him get up from the floor. After he was on his feet, her hands found their way to her hips, just like her mother’s did every time Natalie had been scolded as a child. She was still frowning; her brown eyes which usually were filled with amusement were cold. This was a Library! And the kids needed to learn to respect the sanctity of the place. She shook her head in disapproval at the small boy; she had all the intention of continuing the scolding…he needed to learn a lesson. The Library was not a playground, she didn’t know how the old librarian handled it but in her watch, this place would be respected.

The boy apologized, he seemed sorry enough. Natalie was debating on what to do when he started crying. She couldn’t help it, her heart melted at the sight and his explanation was so cute Natalie couldn’t stay mad any longer. He was just so cute! Plus, he was researching something because his dad had told him.

She smiled down at the boy and patted his head, “It’s all right. I won’t owl your father or send you to the Headmistress but just this once,” she sighed, “the next time you can simply summon the book or ask for help. I am always here or you can ask one of your peers,” she directed her wand to the bookcase, “Look you summon a book with accio,” she showed the boy how to do it, wands movements and all. A random book came into her outstretched hand. Once the boy had seen how it was done, she returned the book to its rightful place. Natalie couldn’t have an unorganized Library.

“Do you need anything else?” she smiled warmly at him, any trace of her previous anger was completely gone.
