Professor Aaron McKindy

Spending some time in the stacks by Professor Aaron McKindy

In the interest of not being an overbearing or embarrassing ‘parent’, Aaron McKindy had done his best to minimise his interactions with the rest of the school for the past half-term. However, his recent—well, it wasn’t quite a confrontation but it wasn’t much of anything else either—with Cooper had left him with the realisation that his young foster-son was as disinclined to mention his relationship with Aaron as Aaron was to make public that knowledge himself. So the man had decided to spend one grey Saturday afternoon amidst the stacks in the Sonora library. Although Tarquin had apparently left the staff while Aaron had been elsewhere and he was not acquainted with the new librarian, Aaron was still familiar with the library itself.

Only a few moments had passed before he found an appropriate tome and settled into a soft chair to read. The black-haired man’s sea-grey robes spread at his feet, covering the beaten, formerly white trainers he had on. The robe itself seemed to move and foam at the edges; an effect Aaron himself had applied. Now comfortably resettled at Sonora, Aaron had resumed his former habits of creating his own clothes. He had also resumed several of the experimental Charms that had been put on hold with the whole RMI fiasco. His experiments were licensed, of course, but that didn’t mean he didn’t need to research.

Leather creaking, Aaron settled the tome on his lap and turned a page contemplatively. The book was old, although not particularly outdated; it was on the significance of naming charms. As the holder of several Charms-patents, it wasn’t that the professor was unfamiliar with that sort of thing; he just felt as though a refresher might provide the breakthrough he needed. After all, it probably wouldn’t due to turn Godric electric blue on accident again, even if it had been rather amusing. Even Cooper had cracked a smile at that.

“Hmm?” Someone was standing to his left; Aaron had caught movement in his peripheral vision and looked up, grey-green eyes meeting those of the person nearby. “Did you need something?” the professor asked politely, smiling.

Professor Ichabod Linn

Same, though it wasn't really my idea by Professor Ichabod Linn

Working at Sonora was a lot like college, minus the hard-partying roommates. At least, that’s how Ichabod Linn felt that way about his job thus far. He’d never been much of an extrovert to begin with so socializing was something that he just never really had a firm grasp of. Linn would much rather play with his tarot cards than try to get someone to like him – he had much better luck with inanimate objects than people anyways. It’s not like he ignored people of course; he said hello to his co-workers if they popped up or to students, but that’s as far as he took his conversing skills. He still felt awkward speaking to an entire class even with Midterm so near and he still felt out-of-place near so many people. If he hadn’t Seen himself working here, he’d never had been a professor. Ever. But he was here, so he mine as well wait it out and figure out why the Fates wanted him to work there.

Originally, Linn had planned to hide out in his classroom until his purpose was made obvious. That plan was shattered with a rather disgruntled letter from his girlfriend ordering him to stop hiding and go make some friends to send Christmas Cards to already. It was his fault she wrote him an angry note, he shouldn’t have told her he spent his free time recently avoiding people like it was a sport.

It was the reason he was in the library that day. He heard it was the place to be for quiet time, so that’d make it the second best place to be. He took his time plucking out a thin paperback that had yet to be touched by age or careless student’s bags and made his way to a cozy looking leather chair that had his name all over it. He was a few paces away when he came beside a chair already occupied by a familiar face, that of the Charms Professor. He gulped, debating whether to take his girlfriend’s advice or not, before deciding to just keep on forward. The man looked occupied with his book anyways, so interrupting would be rude.

He didn’t move fast enough because not even a half-step later and the Professor’s eyes were on him and he had spoken directly to Linn, no one else. Another reason he thought it best to keep his mouth shut near the co-workers beyond pleasantries? If this place was as much like college as he felt it was, then none of them would get far past the whole ‘Divinations’ thing. As much as he loved it, he was pretty sure not many others did. Even most of the students in his class proved they thought it was a fluke.

He took a breath and turned around, smiling and bringing his book to his side. “Afternoon, Professor,” he greeted. “I didn’t need anything, just came around to read a bit and get out of the classroom for a while.” He nodded to the other man’s book. “Is it safe to guess you’ve got a similar plan?”
