Tag: Someone to keep me company? by Josh Warren

Josh was on the edge of insanity due to the uncomtrolable boredom he was suffering from back in the Common Room. Being back at Sonora was great, but it did come with brief periods of that pest, boredom. He wasn't sure why he had come to the library, of all places, to entertain himself, but he figured he might find someone he knew here.

Josh roamed the stacks of books, looking for something he could share with Renaye about new Beating techniques. What they needed was individual manuevers. They had the pairs down, but try-outs weren't going to be that way. Josh was worrying himself sick over these try-outs. What if they didn't think he was good enough? What if he got cut? God, Josh wasn't sure what he would do... That would be torturous! It was bad last year, watching Irene practice or play while he sat in the stands, but if he had to watch Renaye or Zane out there while he wasn't... It would be even worse because they would have proven themselves more worthy of a spot on the team than him. And Quidditch was his life! Josh needed this spot. If he was going to go pro, he needed to play.

Josh found a book on Beating entitled Bludger Beating for the Blockheaded. Great. Josh turned abruptly, beginning to go find a table, only to find there was someone behind him. Josh's motion resulted in him walking straight into the person, dropping his book in the process. He scooped it up, muttering at the same time,

"Sorry, didn't see you there..."

I like company! by Krisalyn Koli

Krisalyn had finally found time to go to the library after lunch, and ventured through the corridors to find the sought-out place. She finally came across the majestic doors, and gasped silently. Rows upon rows of volumes were spread out before her, and Krisalyn couldn't wait to start and learn about her 'magic powers.' She walked past a few of the columns, and decided to just start looking around randomly. She picked out a book from a lower shelf and jumped when she opened it and a 'poof!' of dust came out. 'Well, it's definitely been a long time since this has been opened' she thought, musing to herself.

Krisalyn put the text back in the shelf, finding that it was only about flowers found in the garden. She had nothing against plants at all, but gardening wasn't really her thing. She skimmed the rest of the books in that aisle, and, finding that they were definitely the plant section, she turned into the next row of novels. Gazing up at a relatively thick volume near the top of the shelf, Krisalyn pondered on how to reach it. She was very tall for her age, but you would need an older person to get it. Turning, Krisalyn was surprised to see a flash of color to her left. She was about to ask the boy if he would be able to reach her book, when he moved abruptly, causing Krisalyn to fall to the ground with a small squeal escaping her lips. She heard the boy's text fall next to her.

Blushing, Krisalyn bent her knees and stood up, brushing herself off and fixing her auburn braids. The boy apologized quickly, "Sorry, didn't see you there."

'Obviously' Krisalyn thought, but quickly pushed her surprisingly rude comment out of her mind.

"Oh, it's alright," she said, truly not very disturbed by the fall, as she was very used to them, being extremely clumsy, "But, I was wondering if you would be able to reach that book up there?" she added, pointing.

I like small company by Josh

The red-headed girl didn't look too framiliar to Josh. She must be a first year. Josh made to apologize again as she stood up, but she was already responding. She looked oddly like someone he knew... Who was it? Her red hair reminded him of... Cristin, from the Quidditch team. She was the second reserve beater, and a very funny girl. She always had a comment to shoot back at you, even if you didn't really say anything. Renaye had once asked her where she got it from and she replied, "It comes with the hair." She was crazy, but it was entertaining. Small doses though. Cristin must be taken in small doses. The girl who Josh had knocked down was on her feet and was now pointing out a book somewhere above her head. Josh lifted his pale blue eyes upward to where she was pointing, pushing his black hair away to see.

"But, I was wondering if you would be able to reach that book up there?" Josh nodded.

"Yeah, no problem," Josh replied, "That huge one there?" Josh, being above average height for his age, stood at his tallest and pulled the book from its shelf.

"My name's Josh," he introduced himself, handing the book to her with a small but friendly smile. "You?"

Renaye was good with meeting people and starting conversations. Josh, however, not so much. He would rather have something given to him that started a conversation. Like when he met Laurie, he didn't even have to say "Hi, I'm Josh." All he had to do was go up to her, with enough reason to. Josh just wasn't good at finding something out of the air to talk about. So instead, he looked to the book the girl was holding.

"Up to a little reading in your spare time then?" he said with a playful grin, nodding at the book. "Me too." He held up the book he had dropped earlier, which was very much thinner than the book she held.

Who are you calling small? ;) by Krisalyn Koli

The boy replied, at ease, "Sure, no problem." He looked up and asked, "That huge one there?" She blushed slightly and nodded, feeling as though she was already being perceived as a nerd of some sort. Krisalyn watched the boy nod and reach up to retrieve the sought book. She studied him and, from what she saw, pertained him to be a second year.

He pulled at the book and it came loose easily, resting in his hand. He held the book out to her and smiled shyly, introducing himself as Josh. Krisalyn smiled slightly, pulled at by a memory of a good friend of hers at her old school. She only realized that he had asked for her name when he looked at her with inquisitive eyes. "Krisalyn," she stated, then realized how formal that sounded, and added, "I'm in Teppenpaw, how about you?" She didn't recognize him from her table last night, but with all the bunches of people there, she could have easily forgotten his face among the others.

He eyed her large book, and Krisalyn once again felt self conscious. "Up to a little reading in your spare time, then?" Josh asked smiling at her, "Me too."

She felt relieved, thankful that she wasn't the only one at Sonora that liked to read. She looked at the title of the book he was holding, and it read, 'Bludger Beating for the Block headed.' She grinned at the alliteration in the name then asked, "What's a bludger? Uhm, and, beating?" She sounded stupid, Krisalyn realized, hoping that the term beating wasn't literal.

You. xD by Josh

"Krisalyn. I'm in Teppenpaw, how about you?"

It took Josh a moment to realize that she had said Krisalyn and not Cristin. His mind had actually frozen for a moment, wondering if she might actually be here. That would have been insane... She was a nice girl and all that, but, like he said, small doses. After Josh had recovered from his momentary shock, he answered her question.

"Crotalus," he said casually, not sure how her reaction might be to that. Some people he talked to seem to become more weary of him after gaining that knowledge. It was a curse of the house. Josh didn't mind Crotalus. From what he heard, and saw, last year they had one great Quidditch team last year, even after the unfortunate loss. He supported his house, no matter how many people may have personality issues.

"What's a bludger? Uhm, and, beating?" Josh felt that framiliar sensation that he felt when hearing that a person knew little to nothing about Quidditch. It wasn't resentment, just disbelief. But that soon passed once he thought of all the muggleborns in the school.

"Muggleborn?" he asked with a small grin. Josh didn't usually talk much, but she had brought up Quidditch. What else was he suppose to do? "They're Quidditch terms. Quidditch, is the sport for wizarding society, played on brooms. There's four balls. Also, there's seven players to a team. Three Chasers take the Quaffle, big red ball, and try to put it through three big hoops that are at each end of the field. The Keeper's job is to block the goals, like a goalie in hockey. A goal is ten points. There's the Seeker, who flies around trying to catch the Snitch; that's a tiny gold ball that flies around reallly fast. Then there's the Beaters," he raised a hand. "My twin sister and I are Beaters. We fly around looking for bludgers. Those are crazy metal balls that try to knock people off their rooms. It's the Beaters' job to keep the bludgers from hitting our teammates and to send them the other team's way. Game ends when the snitch is caught and the snitch is worth 150 points." Josh tapped the book's cover.

"Try-out are coming up. I'm studying up on manuevers," Josh said, "So we know I like Quidditch... What are you in to?"

Well, gosh! ^^ by Krisalyn

OOC- I'm soo sorry for the long wait, I've been EXTREMELY busy!

After Krisalyn introduced herself, Josh seemed to have a small memory, and stared off into space for a moment. Then, just as suddenly as he had lapsed, the boy came back into consciousness and said, "Crotalus,"
Krisalyn smiled, a bit disappointed that he was not in her Teppenpaw as well. 'Oh well,' she thought, 'It's always good to meet new people not like you.'

"Muggleborn?" he had asked, and Krisalyn became confused, not recognizing the term. She vowed to research it, and just nodded in reply, not trusting a verbal answer. She listened as Josh told her of Quidditch, immediately interested in anything that was exciting, and had to do with flying, outside of plane, no less! The auburn-haired girl hung onto every word, deciding to also get a book on the game he described, biting her lip in anticipation. She thought that his position sounded great, but what really interested her was the job of Keeper. Krisalyn had always been best on Defense, and that was just the job, it seemed. She wondered briefly if she could try out; but remembered hearing two older students talk about how they were happy to not have to deal with first-years at try-outs.

When Josh asked what Krisalyn was interested in, she thought for a moment, then replied, "Well, I, obviously, like to read a lot, but I'm just extremely interested in the whole magic concept right now. It's just so... well, magical, I guess! And I do really like to kind of explore, I guess you could say. You know, just take an excursion around places, try to find a 'secret place.' I guess that's a bit weird, but hey, that's the definition of me!"

Joking, of course =) by Josh

"Well, I, obviously, like to read a lot, but I'm just extremely interested in the whole magic concept right now. It's just so... well, magical, I guess! And I do really like to kind of explore, I guess you could say. You know, just take an excursion around places, try to find a 'secret place.' I guess that's a bit weird, but hey, that's the definition of me!" Josh smiled and nodded in reply. Josh didn't read like it seemed Krisalyn did. He flipped through Quidditch magazines and read the occasional short novel, but nothing like research for fun. Okay, so the book in front of him contradicted that, but this was a Quidditch book. That didn't count. Josh could understand Krisalyn wanting to know more about magic. Josh had grown up with magic. It was something that he just knew about as he got older. Muggleborns, though, they got to Sonora and had this huge wave of information coming at them. It was something that Josh was glad he didn't have to encounter.

At Krisalyn's mention of a secret place, Josh grinned. "Hey, it's not weird! It's kind of cool. My twin and my friends just went out into the Gardens to find new places," he informed her, "We were just looking around, but it was great. If you're looking for somewhere to explore, there's the place to start."

Josh thought the way Krisalyn seemed to be so outgoing reminded him of Renaye. That was fun becuase Josh liked to think that he got on well with Raye. Renaye would probably get along really well with her. He wondered sometimes whether his sister would do better in Teppenpaw or Pecari rather than Crotalus. She probabably would have had more fun there rather than stuck with the Crotali girls. Oddly, he was glad that Renaye had been put there. She knew how to handle herself, so it wasn't like she was going to perish there in the dorm. And she met Laurie there. That was the luckiest thing that had happened in the past two years.

Right, like I'll believe THAT lie! by Krisalyn

The new witch was relieved to find that Josh didn't find her to be too weird. It would just be awkward for him to say something like he hated new places, or thought exploring was boring. She was surprised, though, when she found out that her new friend had a twin. "You have a twin?!" she piped up, "That's SO cool! It sounds strange, but I've always wanted a twin!" Her longing would most likely be because of her adoption, and lack of knowledge about her true family, but either way, it'd be cool. She was also grateful for the tip about the Labyrinth Gardens. She decided to check that place out the next chance she got.

Krisalyn wondered what Josh and his friends had found in the Gardens, and hoped that there would be animals for her to study there. 'Even bugs would be nice!' she thought, smiling slightly when she remembered how when she was a child she had once brought a large beetle into the house. Her mom had really... freaked out, for lack of a better term.

"So, will you teach me a little more about Quidditch?" Krisalyn asked expectantly. She hoped it wouldn't be too forthcoming to ask, "It just really seems interesting, and I'd love to try out for my team next year!" In fact, Krisalyn was really eager to get a broom, not just learn the game.
