Alderaanian Prefect Station by Zack Dill

Zack was seriously considering just carving his name into the rectangular table that was pushed up against one of the windows in the Non-Magical Sciences section. It would probably be easier than getting up at five in the morning the day classes began so that all the Alderaanians leaving the common room would see that this one was his. That wasn't allowed, however, and Zack had the utmost respect for Library property, so he didn't.

He did what he always had, every year since his first. He woke up early the first day of classes and filled his table full of books that he had little intention of using that morning. Most of them came off the shelves behind him, the selection of normal science books that he would be studying if he hadn't gone to magic school. Looking at a Physics text, Zack made a mental note to ask Professor Kijewski whether he could take classes at a real school in addition to what he took here.

What he had decided to actually read today were a couple of history references. He was cross checking Normal History with Magic History and trying to discover overlaps. Having two huge books like that open and referring to both of them apparently looked intimidating because very few people ever bothered him while he was cross referencing.

Today, though, there was one small difference. With respect to the shiny badge now adorning his school robes, Zack had added a piece of paper to the end of the table and magically stuck it there for the duration of his stay. It stated:

I'm an Alderaanian....but....I don't have questions by Guenther Heindrich

Guenther woke up early, knowing full well that Zack Dill was setting up his table for the first day of classes. Zack had done that last year and Guenther's first year. As he poked his head into the library, he saw Zack at his table. He walked quietly up to Zack, and stood behind him, wondering if he'd notice. He probably would, but just in case he asked, "Did you get taller or am I getting shorter?"\n\n

Oh, hey by Zack Dill

Zack was still trying to figure out how normal people had missed something as big as the Great Vampire Wars when he sensed a presence behind him. Or possibly, just heard him breathing or something. Either way, Zack knew he was no longer alone. Whoever it was felt big, but a professor wouldn't just loom there like that.

He was starting to get nervous, and a thin sheen of sweat broke out on his forehead as he wondered if maybe the aliens had finally come back to Sonora. That thought was shattered completely, however, when the presence spoke. "Did you get taller or am I getting shorter?"

Zack let out a long breath of relief and slumped down over his books. "Great Maker, Guenther, don't scare me like that." He pointed to the chair across from him and imperiously ordered, "Sit."

Without waiting for his friend to comply, he addressed the question posed to him, "And to answer your query, 'Not nearly fast enough.'" Sitting back in his own chair, he crossed his arms in front of him and grumped, "Half the firsties are still bigger than me."

Granted that was better than the three quarters of last year but it was still frigging annoying.
