Sorry, Headmistress. My fault. by Zack Dill

There were a lot of things that Zack Dill was grateful that Sorona did not have that his old school in Detroit did. His brother. Gym class. Smoking in the bathrooms (Zack had only suffered one year of middle school and it was one year too many in that respect). Lockers. Stupid reading assignments of tediously boring 'literature'.

What he did miss were his science and math courses.

Astronomy was all well and good, but he should be in eighth (maybe ninth, if he skipped again) grade now. He wanted to start on the high school level stuff in a real class, not just reading about it. But reading about it was all that was available here.

Feeling a minor twinge of disappointment and regret, he opened the Earth Science book to the chapter on geology and began reading about the three different kinds of rocks on Earth's surface. He was just getting into the real dirt on sedimentary stone, when he felt like there was a presense near him.

Surpressing annoyance, he marked his spot with a finger and asked, "What?" without looking up or around.\n\n
