A side project by Nathan Xavier

Nathan wasn't quite sure where Alice had gotten to - she'd been following behind him meowing for second breakfast (he was pretty sure she was part Hobbit) when he'd left the Teppenpaw commons - but he wasn't too worried about her. The white persian cat had lived at Sonora long enough that she knew her way around and could find her way back to his living quarters on her own. Right now, though, his focus was on some other living things under his care, specifically his expanded garden.

During the time Sonora had been cut off from the outside world, the elves had been cultivating a small vegetable garden for some fresh produce, which had been one of the few fresh foods the student had been able to continue eating toward the end of their incarceration. Since then, Nathan had expanded it quite significantly. There were a few fruit trees, the vegetable section had more than doubled in size, and now there were herbs growing as well. In addition, he'd also begun growing some more interesting hebological specimens, mostly for his own enjoyment. He'd been trained as a herbologist first and foremost and he missed some of the challenges of raising magical plants. He'd brought the whole project up in a staff meeting awhile ago, more as an fyi than to ask permission, but he hadn't expected much opposition. Fresh food, free potion ingredients, and a groundskeeper willing to take on extra work without getting extra pay had very few administrative downsides.

So here he was, in his new expanded garden, which was far enough off of the main paths of the Gardens that there wasn't much traffic here, but it was not completely impossible for someone exploring the labyrinth to find. Currently, he was tending to the weeding. People never believed him when he said as much, but he enjoyed weeding. He found great satisfaction in seeing the very obvious improvement in his plant beds once it was done, and the process was actually quite relaxing for him. He often lost track of time and awareness of his surrounding when he really got into the zone. It was very nearly as good as meditation. Better, really, because he really wasn't any good at sitting still and clearing his mind enough for meditation.

Of course it did mean people could sneak up on him very easily.
